Square Enix Releases Tomb Raider, Dragon Quest Sales Data

Tokyo-based Square Enix just completed its full acquisition of U.K. game maker Eidos this week, and has now revealed the latest sales figures in its arsenal of multi-million-selling titles.

Dragon Quest, which will see its ninth numbered sequel this year in Japan, has so far sold 47 million units. The great majority of these sales have been in Japan -- many entries in the series were in North America. The first Dragon Quest game to be released in Europe was Dragon Quest VIII in 2006.

Disney crossover franchise Kingdom Hearts, which so far comprises only two numbered games and one spin-off, has sold 12 million units. Two new portable spin-offs, for the Nintendo DS and PSP, are expected this year.
