Rumor: Mass Effect Trilogy Coming to PS3

A source close to EA has told Second Story Gamer that Mass Effect 2 and 3 will be available on the PS3 as well as the 360 and PC. Also, according to the source, it is "likely" that EA will port the original game to the PS3, to introduce PS3 owners, who may have missed the original game, to the franchise.

ROFLMAO! at Snow. This has been a rumour for quite some time.

PixlSheX5590d ago

Plus Mass Effect 3. There goes 360's entire 09-10 lineup.

Now on-topic. mass effect is the only reason why i would buy a 360. I finished the 1st one on a friend house hehe..

Danja5590d ago

well this rumor has been around for quite some time now..

but I really hope this is true....really enjoyed this game , wouldn't mine playing it on my PS3.....

SullyDrake5590d ago

I will most certainly hold out on getting a 360 now and wait for the definitive PS3 version.

Why dis5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

Fake as hell.

They already worked a deal for ME2 to first release on the 360 then the PC lol.

Economic problems? People don't even buy games on the PS3 nor do they buy alot of PS3's.

LOL at the Bioshock BS being proof of games coming to PS3 every time a PS3 fan wants a 360 game, what about other games from EA Spore and Left 4 Dead etc .

As if the economic issue effects the gaming market.

Every year when PS3's over hyped lineup shrinks the PS3 fans resort to these claims.

Did Bioshock on PS3 even sell that much? will the devs for ME2 follow suit yet ignor the results for Bioshock on PS3? lol

But the fictional reason for this is pretty convincing, it would be even more convincing if the video game market wasn't recession proof.

Montrealien5590d ago

(The official announcement will “take place at GDC” (which starts March 23), according to our source. Of course, take this with a grain of salt till then.)

Or in other words, we don;t have a source, we are talking out of our asses.

eitherway, if you only have a PS3 and this (rumor) does turn out to be real, that's geat news, this a great franchise that should be enjoyed by all who loves a solid RPG.

chaosatom5590d ago

There would be no reason not to.

The only question is if Microsoft is interested or not.

360 man5590d ago

please, as if its gonna sell on ps3

if sony fans cant buy there own exclusives, then why are they gonna buy this

Milky Joe5590d ago

We don't buy ours because we're so enamoured with your bounty of virtual delights that nothing on our system can compare...

And that's the truth! No, really.

xwabbit5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

Eh... EA has it now and they love the $ like every other company so.... not a surprise if it goes to PS3. L4D is already being made for PS3.
I dk y people r getting halo wars. Its like the game Tom Clancy's End War... and IMO.... that game.... not really my type xD.... reason y i bring this up is just in case some 1 say's that title for the xbox's 2009 line up.

solidt125590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

I loved Mass Effect on the 360 but I kept wishing I could of played it with a PS3 controller. Now i will be able to with ME 2. Anyone who hasn't played it will love it, Mass Effect, Uncharted and Bioshock where my favorite games of 07. Edit forgot COD 4.

Why dis5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

I think the annual ME coming to PS3 was about due anyways I'm sure this will grow to the point where the devs respond to it yet again.

This news is actually fake and made up because of the other ME news about the new edition. That site(secondstorygamer.com) with the insider info is most likely made up by fanatics from this site.

As if they have the upper hand over other companies with better sources/info lol.

Is this some sort of way of tricking ignorant consumers of being interested in PS3?
EDIT BELOW: OUCH!

@crazzyman, The devs can make up any difference of a non PS3 release with the 360's new over 8 million console lead ;)

I think you guys are silly mad if you think MSFT hasn't/won't do everything in their power to keep the series.

EA wanted talent on their side not control against devs will, they have said this lots of times. Bioware can do what they want and have any relationship they desire.

NinjaRyu5590d ago

Bioshock PS3 sold about 300K.

Aclay5590d ago

Since Bioware is owned by EA, then I think that it's just a matter of time before the Mass Effect franchise comes to PS3.... there's just no escaping it.

CrazzyMan5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

Oblivion sold on PS3 around 1 mln., Fallout 3 already did over 1 mln. on PS3, and will do atleast 500k more, if not 2 mln. LTD in the end.
WHY would they ignore 20 mln.(today) PS3 userbase, and 30-35 mln. by the time of ME2 release? =))

The other thing, that M$ just like with 1st xbox is not in position to lose any exclusive, since their 1st and 2nd party support is weak compared to Sony. :)

EDIT:
1.14 There is actually only 7 mln. difference in NA, while in Europe sales are on pair. Developers would ignore PS3, just because in NA x360 has bigger install base? BUT NA is NOT WW. =)
It`s more like some Japanese developers will ignore x360 in Japan and make PS3 exclusives like Valkyria Chronicles, Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm, Quantum Theory, Yakuza 3, Demon`s Soul, next CC game. :)
But western developers? They think about money. =)
Anyway, i wonder, if M$ is still in position during Recession to continue pay for exclusives, that`s very interesting. =))

I'll need more proof of this before I believe it but, Snow, THAT was hilarious.

Let me ask you guys something...Why do you guys hate the 360 so much? I own both a 360 and a ps3 and there is such a resounding hate for the 360 it borderline turns me off from reading most of the comments. So with that in mind, why do you guys hate the 360 so much? I'd really like to hear why...

Veneno5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

is BS, but the question still does stand.

1) Both EA AND 2K have said that ps3 is the platform that makes them the most money. People already forgot that fact.
2) I believe that 2k brought bioshock 1 over to ps3 knowing that it wouldn't do that well only because the people that really wanted to play it played it on 360 or PC. BUT, Bioshock 2 is inevitably coming to ps3, which is why they really had no choice but to port the 1st one over, now that those roots are planted, bioshock 2 will sell millions on ps3. So, therefore, if EA is gonna bring ME 2 to ps3, there is no point in doing that if they first do not bring ME 1, to plant the roots. GDC will answer all...
3) EA is creating the huge sports complex for Playstation HOME. I think it's fair to say that they really support the ps3
4) 2K is EA's rival, they are always trying to outdo each other with their sports titles. Since EA couldn't buyout the competition, they are just going to have to settle with competing with them, which means bringing as many games as possible to all off the platforms, including bringin ME to ps3.(remember that bioshock is coming to ps3).

Thank you for reading.

edit
I just thought of something devilish......EA could fit both ME1 and ME2 on a single blu-ray!

shovelbum5590d ago

As someone who typically buys multi-platform titles on the 360, I have no issues with it going to the PS3. The game is very well done and would be a welcomed addition to PS3 owners. However the question is if the rumor is true then will the port be any good?

INehalemEXI5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

I kid , I kid.

seriously though get some teleporter tech for 2&3.

pain777pas5590d ago

Great game and still very much playable even now.

Bubble Buddy5590d ago

Any 360 fans saying that PS3 has to "steal" exclusives to get great games should just be quiet right now, and if you don't know why I'll be glad to respond in the Open Zone.

5590d ago
Mozilla895590d ago

So I guess we'll find out in a couple months. I wouldn't mind it coming to the PS3 at all. Maybe EA will give the 360 version of the sequel a timed exclusive to keep the 360 owners happy?

I guess we'll find out soon.

GUNS N SWORDS5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

PS3 Bioshock didn't do well because there were 20 other games to buy when it was released. One day I hope to play it but considering PS3's lineup it's not looking good. I bought FC2 at launch and it took me two months to get around to playing it.

GUNS N SWORDS5590d ago

don't just say yep it's legit and then later on have the rumor get smashed cause no one said it in the first place.

also imo, in the long run don't wait to spend $60 on a port that might not be as expected.

if you want my honest opinion of which game was more a solid performing title bioshock or ME i say bioshock, and even still with 2k on ps3's side they still didn't make it up to pc/360's par.

5590d ago
thats_just_prime5590d ago

Bioware has said from the very start that ME was being made of the 360. Its also a well known fact that bioware is very loyal to MS despite a very low install based compared to the ps2 bioware still made jade empire and kotor exclusively for the xbox. That being said unless ms had some kind of deal in places with bioware before EA bought them out its possible that EA will make bioware port ME to the ps3

You can pritty much guarantee Mass Effect 2 & 3 will come to the PS3. Mass Effect 1 would be awesome, I would deffinatly play through it again on the PS3 if it runs alot more smoothly.

Just with that one statement, you proved yourself to be either very ignorant, or incredibly stupid. Maybe even both.

5590d ago
orakga5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

I thought Unreal Tournament ran very nicely on the PS3, and proves that the Unreal engine is quite feasible on the PS3.

The examples you cited are valid, too, but should be taken with a grain of salt, as they were older examples of Unreal-based PS3 titles. I think, as you also recognized, Mirror's Edge is a great example of how more recent titles are overcoming any issues they faced earlier on, and if ME2 is being produced with the know-how of today, I can totally see it being on par with the 360 version.

---

But frankly, I would actually bet on the PS3 version being better if it has HDD installs. I actually played ME1 on the 360 for about 30 hours, then eventually gave up because I got too tired of the elevators. And let's face it: we all know why those elevators were there: to cover up load times. If nothing else, having HDD installs (and yes, I know the 360 can do it now too) would drastically cut down those frustrating moments from this game, and may actually entice me to give ME another try.

Chubear5590d ago

when this game got announced, a tonne of the PS3 fanbase thought "DAYUM! that looks like a Playstation type game. I'd totally hit that."

It is the one (and only) 360 game that made me sit up but as soon as I saw EA put up 800mill to acquire Bioware I felt great cause I knew they were going to be looking to put that thing on even the leapster leapfrog & Diji to make sure they maximize they're returns on that heavy 800mill.

Nathan Drake5590d ago

If EA are publishing Mass Effect 2,do you honestly-let me repeat that-do you HONESTLY believe EA will make it exclusive to 1 platform?

L Ronald Hubbard5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

Sure Bioware wants the trilogy to stay on the 360 but with EA in charge, its possible. I don't expect this to perform well on PS3 since its using the Unreal Engine.

005590d ago

if they had a contract signing with MS.

PirateThom5590d ago

Bioware may actually want the franchise to stay exclusive, but BioWare are now owned by EA, so BioWare doesn't really have much of a say.

That said, this is the 360 game PS3 only owners should want. Not Halo or Gears of War, this, because it's awesome.

LarVanian5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

To be honest I think the game would work well on PS3 if it was made properly.
Unreal Tournament 3 and Mirrors Edge are both Unreal Engine games that work great on PS3.

Dark General5590d ago

Doubt it would stay exclusive. It's one of the 4 games (Alan Wake, NG2, Splinter Cell: COnvictions) that i want a 360 for. Having Mass Effect come to the Ps3 would be a huge relief for me. I don't really have the additional funds to get a 360 at this time.

deeznuts5590d ago

Good, because mass effect 1 ran horribly on my 360. Absolutely loved the game, but there were a ton of hiccups and slowdowns throughout the game. Even with no enemies on screen my game would stutter

jack who5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

BIOWARE owns the rights to mass effect, not EA. EA has already stated that bioware has the freedom to do whatever they want with the IP.

edit:
6 disagrees with no back up..my job here's done.

RememberThe3575590d ago

therefore owns it's IP's. EA spent close to $800 mil to acquire VG Holding Corp. who owned both Pandemic and BioWare for a reason.

http://www.businesswire.com...

Sarcasm5590d ago

It depends on a lot of things. One of them being the structure of the company. It's like the MGS series. Maybe Konami wanted it to be multiplatform? But Kojima the one who makes the game refuses to agree?

The same could possibly be said about Mass Effect.

Plus, ME had frame rate issues already on the 360 hardware. A port of that game to the PS3 will be like watching a slide show.

JasonPC360PS3Wii5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

EA has made exclusive games for the 360 already http://www.ea.com see for yourself.

meepmoopmeep5590d ago

it's possible that it will go multiplat
UNLESS there's a contract between MS and EA

JD_Shadow5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

....I'm wondering what Bioware has said about their console intentions LATELY! Every time I hear about the debate over this rumor (which, by the way, it's looking more and more likely, and it seems as though some of the 360 fanboys cannot handle that), my mind keeps going back to the 360 UK story and how Bioware was so unhappy that they were taken completely out of context and they made the site post a retraction. That's still relevant to me because it seemed, at least then, that Bioware really didn't want the word "exclusive" being thrown around like that with the ME franchise.

Like I said, Bioware's intentions may have changed since the last time we've heard from them. And even if they do, WHY DO THE 360 FANBOYS CARE?! It won't be like they don't get the game. They were all up in the faces and spouting out that line about the reaction to FF13 going multiplatform. If ME goes multi, then maybe they should practice what they preach.

EDIT@Rhoic: You're using the wrong examples. Spore was made by Sims creator Will Wright, who has made all of his games for the PC first, while we all KNOW the story around L4D (and EA didn't exactly have that much of a role in making that game, if any).

Rhoic5590d ago (Edited 5590d ago )

1 platform? No.

PC/360? Yes. PC + 360 = 2 platforms. Spore, Left 4 Dead, and a bunch of other games produced by EA have never touched the PS3. What in the WORLD makes you think that it would now?

Also, it's not physically possible that EA and 2K make more money on the PS3. Every time the NPDs are out, any EA game on the charts is always on the 360. Also, 2K sold like 300k for Bioshock on the PS3. There's just absolutely no way. And don't start saying things like America doesn't = the world.

http://xbox360.ign.com/arti...

ravinash5590d ago

Its nothing to do with Bioware wanting to keep it on one system.
MS helped publish the first game, so I'm sure for contract purposes they may have to hold off releasing it on PS3.

Dark_Vendetta5590d ago

Remember the Interview with developer Matt Atwood? I think he said it would be 360 exclusive but this time it'll come faster for the PC too (probably the same day as 360). MS started publishing ME2 until Bioware was bought by EA. They gave up the publishing rights under some conditions (most probably staying exclusive, otherwise EA would have made it multiplatform, because I don't think Bioware is really THAT loyal).
All in all we'll see that this rumour is false in march.
By the way: how the hell do they want to port the first one to the Ps3 if it was published by Microsoft Game Studios?

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave34d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan34d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.
