Hahaha, PS3 fans are so starved for good games that they are seeing things. You will never get you're remake because Square is fed up with the outdated PS3 hardware. It's too limiting. They probably are going to go 360 exclusive from now on as it has a bigger user base and the hardware is 10x better than the PS3's. A 360 exclusive FF would mean EVERYTHING including gameplay would be CGI quality because the 360 can handle it. I don't see the PS3 handling CGI quality games. All I see on the PS3 are outdated graphics that look nothing compared to any 360 game out now or coming out in the future.

A sequel or "something new" could never be as great as a sequel. That's because Squaresoft was on a higher level back in the PS1 days than they are now. Enix is lame and SquareEnix is just riding on the success of its past. Their games only have a bunch of emos, ridiculous character design, and the standard 'save the world' RPG story.

SquareSoft in the PS1 days made such masterpieces as FF7, FFTactics, and Star Ocean 2. Nothing they've made recently can even compare. A remake is something even they will have a hard time screwing up.

i personally don't understand all this fantatical love of FFVII.

don't get me wrong, it was the game that made me go, "that's it, i'm getting a Playstation."

and i was suitably wowed by the game when i finally popped it into my console back in 97.

BUT, in truth. FFVI was better. FFVII brought the series, and RPGs and general into the mainstream, but it was kind of a garbled, mistranslated mess on the story side of things.

the visuals were outstanding, as were the cinemas at that time, but it's since been surpassed by other RPGs, even other FF's (i personally really love FFIX, and FFXII more than FFVII).

don't get me wrong, i LOVE the world of FFVII, and would love to revisit it on the PS3 (FFVII: Crisis Core got me hungry for an HD interpretation of Midgar).

but it's not going to kill me if a remake is being made or not.

i'd like that, as maybe it'd clean up more than graphics, and we get a more accurate translation, as well as a refined battle system.

i think a lot of you guys need to rein in your expectations.

we know Square-Enix has something nice planned for PS3 users, but it's a bit unrealistic to think it's an FFVII remake, unless it releases next year, before FFXIII comes out in 2010.

there's no way Square-Enix would cannibalize FFXIII's hype and success with FFVII. it's too iconic in the minds of MANY a gamer. it'd overshadow EVERYTHING they have in the pipeline.

hoping for FFVII isn't wrong, and it'd be great if my skepticism was proven to be misplaced tomorrow (or tonight, i guess), but if i'm right, they you guys will just be disappointed.

The most overrated game ever..the most hyped, although really old. All those fanatics you see asking for a FFVII remake have never played any FF..except FFXII maybe...they're the 'new FF generationFF'. I was part of the great old times, and believe me i do not ask for a remake. I wish there was no remake, because a classic should stay a classic. I'm not saying i won't buy it if true, but i'd prefer people to play the original version and enjoy the game how it is supposed to be enjoyed. FFVII isn't anymore on my favorite FF games. In fact, FFIX is my number one FF, followed by FFX and FFXIII. Then comes DoC. Finally, comes FFVII.

As much as I'd like to see a remake, there's two projects that need to be finished first. Unless of course, Square Enix have been lying out of their ass this whole time and really have been developing it.

A sequel or spinoff is a better bet. Hell, the original FF7 on PSN is a much better bet.

I wouldn't mind waiting for a FF7 remake...and I will wait. You can't rush with a remake of a title that is special to many people.

I second that, FFIX was a much better Final Fantasy, it was a welcome return to more old-school FF gameplay with it's elemental characters. I loved VII when I played it first, but it's one those games that's best left as a pleasant memory, it has been surpassed by other Final Fantasy games both before and after it. My favourites list:

1. FFIX
2. FFV
3. FFVI
4. FFVII

Chrono Trigger is better than all of them, though. XD

Chrono Trigger was the RPG that got me hooked on RPGs in the first place! then i played FFVI. man, that was the RPG golden age, so many classics released then...

i've only gotten 9 out of the 13 endings though.

i also liked Chrono Cross for being different, but man, a DQVIII style remake of Chrono Trigger (handled by Level 5) would be WAAAAAY more awesome to me than an FFVII remake.

I remember playing FF7 years ago on the PC and I would have no problem playing it again.Sorry but just because you wouldnt play it again doesnt mean millions would not.That to me is what makes a game great. If I can go back to it later on and it still holds my interest. 7 is just such a game to me.

Cool cant wait to see FF7 for the Wii... I have some good reasons. well as good as the ones that people use for why its coming to the other consoles. They announce FFCC for Wii 2-3 years ago, so far nothing as been shown. I hope they dropped FFCC when they saw the popularity of the Wii in order to give it a proper FF

It's too weird to be a coincidence don't you guys think so?
There are some things to keep in mind about Square-Enix.
Such as the fact that Sony has shares in the company, and since Sony is actually listening to it's users (updates, features etc etc).
I'm sure by now they and even SE knows what the fans want.
Hell Sony could even share the cost/invest into a remake of FF7 to make it actually happen.
I'm just saying that there are alot of possibilities.
