Pachter: PS3 battered 360 in the US last month

VG247: Just got this from Michael Pachter on US sales for June:

"We estimate sell-through of 750,000 Wii, 235,000 Xbox 360 and 375,000 PS3 consoles."

and in the 360's own backyard!if true thats an amazing revival of a console 'in trouble'

but pachter is not the greatest at his job so ill wait for the official numbers thanks

littletad5755d ago

Just another "prediction" by surefire factoid Pachter. And the title is misleading... but I'm sure many will comment on simply for that reason having not even read the short statement article.

hazeblaze5755d ago

If true, I wonder what caused such a dramatic turn around?!!! Great for Sony... but those numbers just seem unbelievable. BUT that would definitely mean Sony does not need to respond to a price cut before the holiday if they can maintain the momentum. And I hope they can.

Silver3605755d ago

Walmart was giving away a $100 gift card with every PS3 sold and MGS4 came out. That might sell a lot of PS3s you think? Duh?

wolfehound225755d ago

Well if he's right which doesn't happen often. I would have to say MGS4 had a lot to do with this. I believe that PS3 did outsell the 360 by a good bit. MGS4 alone I'm sure pushed 100,000 consoles.

crck5755d ago

The 80gb bundle proved to be very popular with a lot of retailers selling out of their 2nd shipment already. The $100 gift card at Walmart also didn't hurt sales. Still very good numbers for the middle of the year though. Hopefully they can keep some of the momentum until some of the other big titles hit in the Fall.

agentace5755d ago

doesn`t happen often, so 5 months in a row isn`t often is it

wolfehound225755d ago

Before you get to defensive reread my statement. I wasn't talking about the PS3 outselling the 360. I was talking about Patchers analysis of what the numbers were going to be. April he predicted the PS3 would beat the 360 he was wrong. May he predicted 360 would beat the PS3 and he was wrong. Now don't get me wrong I believe the PS3 definitely beat the 360 last month. Just Patcher isn't the most reliable person when it comes to his predictions.

Real Gambler5755d ago

This is during a summer month. Way to go MGS! (Awesome game by the way)

Now, we will have to see what the price reduction will do to the 360, since they always say: "only generate a small bump for a short period of time". This was technically the Microsoft's answer to that big PS3 surge in sales.

Tomdc5755d ago

i dont understand why everyone is so shocked... mgs4 came out last month!

gaffyh5755d ago

Lol. I thought Pachter wasn't going to predict stuff relating to the Console war anymore? Seems like he just can't stay away.

IdleLeeSiuLung5755d ago (Edited 5755d ago )

Yeah, Pacther isn't the most reliable, but it is just that an educated guess.

However, I think the July numbers for PS3 will be rather poor. June was expected to be high, due to MGS4 and the Walmart deal that I suspect Sony was trying to artificially push their number higher. I know a number of people that bought the PS3, just because it was a good deal. The numbers stabilize afterwards, and I suspect that MGS4 is just a blip when it comes to long term moving consoles. The only games I can remember moving consoles of recent time is Halo 3 and maybe Smash Bros Brawl, but the Wii was doing so well anyhow. GTA 4 did just about nothing.

MS is doing the same with their temporary price cut, as it will spike sales, but they remain their original price in August. Ingenious move by Sony last year, at the most inopportune time (the price was too high for them). This is now being repeated by MS, with the 360 potentially being to expensive at $350.... Adding 40GB does nothing for most gamers and will not compell them to buy it now if they haven't bought it before. I can fill up my 20GB hard drive pretty quick, but nothing I can't delete.

This, is a good headline:
"PS3 battered 360 in the US last month"

This, is a bad headline:
"Pachter: PS3 battered 360 in the US last month"

Relcom5755d ago (Edited 5755d ago )

That is a beating, I think he could of worded it a little better though.

littletad5755d ago

Then yes. Actual beating? Well no, so why don't we wait for the official data for June:)

King20085755d ago

but I guess i'm not an analyst....anyhoo I finally got a Wii and after beating Super Paper Mario and getting tired of the Wii Sports I haven't played it all weekend. I think I had more fun make Mii's of my family and friends. Also Smarty Pants is a pretty good family game. I rather pay more and be hardcore then to play another Wii game but thats just me.

wolfehound225755d ago

Agreed completely. I've had a Wii for about 4 months, and I rarely play it. After playing thru Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Mario Galaxy, and Zelda I haven't played it much. Now when family and friends come around we break it out, but when I'm alone I'm usually playing my PS3. I think the Wii is a lot of fun, but in all honesty really loses it's appeal after awhile.

360 man5755d ago

well thats expected mgs4 was released in it

QueefyB5755d ago (Edited 5755d ago )

and also because the playstation 3 is a revolutionary video game console that promotes freedom and unity for gamers the xbox 360 is only a next gen charcoal grill

Tales Of Graces Ƒ Retro Review – Holding Out For a Hero

Gary Green said: Namco Bandai heard the call of many fans asking for the PlayStation release of Tales of Graces which was originally released seemingly exclusively for the Wii back in 2009. If you’re acquainted with the Tales series then Graces f won’t be something entirely new to you, yet if you’re a newcomer then you’ll find a plethora of gameplay mechanics and nuances that distinguish this series from other JRPGs. While the game finds itself following the traditional archetype of JRPGs, such as a somewhat clichéd story, Graces has something to offer to both veterans and newcomers alike.

Paying Extra For Early Access Cannot Be The Industry Norm

Charging for early access has started to become a regular practice in several AAA games, and the gaming community should not tolerate this.

CrimsonWing697h ago

Don’t uh… don’t pay for it then? 🤷‍♂️ It’s 3 days early, let people who can’t wait pony up to pay for early access. I’d hope people have more control over themselves if they don’t want to pay extra. I personally, do not see an issue with the option. If I’m hyped for a game and they give you early access, I’ll pay. If it’s something I can wait to play on “actual release” I won’t pay extra. It’s as simple as that.

Crows907h ago

Except your entirely mistaken if you think it's "early access"

Theyre just charging you extra to play it on release. So gullible.

Obscure_Observer6h ago

"Theyre just charging you extra to play it on release. So gullible."

Not really.

In some cases, paying for early access will grant you access to play those games at the same time media outlets and reviewers are playing their copies.

Besides, it´s a single player game. It´s not like early access to MP competitive games like Battlefield which EA would grant a full week early access to those willing to pay; which gives a unfair advantage to those gamers and breaks the game´s balance.

CrimsonWing695h ago

are you playing it earlier than retail release?

If that’s the correct answer, how is it not early access?

Crows907h ago

It's not early access...it's playing on release...early access is when the game isn't finished and needs a little more time...you also get it months in advance.

Let's not get confused here..

Andrew3364h ago

You get access to the game before it goes live for people who purchased the standard version of the game... thus you are getting early access.

Crows903h ago

Nope...you get access to the game the day it goes live. Those who didn't pay extra are blocked from accessing it as a punishment for not paying full price

VersusDMC7h ago

Microsoft has been doing premium edition early access for awhile(Forza and Starfield recently) ...so why is it an issue now when Ubisoft does it?

It can't be the gamepass excuse as Ubisoft has day one subscriptions as well.

Obscure_Observer6h ago

I´ve paid for Starfield´s Premium Edition to get early access to the game, plus Shattered Space expansion.

I don´t regret my decision and I mighty pay for it again to get early access to Fable and TESVI.

Andrew3364h ago

@VincentVanBro yea like the kind of idiots who worry about how adults spend their money.

Crows903h ago

@andrew

Just like the kind of idiots who get scammed and don't realize it.

Andrew33633m ago

@crows do you understand what the word scam means? Choosing to pay more money to play a game before other people is not being scammed.

gold_drake5h ago

as long as people are paying for it, it will be a thing unfortunately.

the fear of missing out is ... huge. especially online.

CrimsonWing695h ago

I don’t think it’s about missing out. Think of it like a movie you’re hyped for. You can see it early if you pay extra or just wait until Friday when it officially releases.

It’s nothing more than that.

Crows903h ago(Edited 3h ago)

Nope. You're not seeing it early. Everyone else is seeing it late.

When a product releases to the public...that's the release date. If they company then chooses to block access to the product unless you pay extra...that's not early access...that's day 1 access.

CrimsonWing691h ago(Edited 1h ago)

@Crows90

No, there’s a public release date and an early release date. Just like with movies having early screenings and then public screenings.

They let the public know the release date and then give people an option to play early by paying more.

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil1d 5h ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai23h ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing699h ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle8h ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal8h ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

Abnor_Mal4h ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

boing17h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.
