Microsoft to buy content back-up firm MobiComp

Microsoft is set to acquire Portuguese mobile back-up and sharing company MobiComp.

The move is another strategic 'bulking up' of Microsoft's roster of mobile services. In the last few years it's bought into search (MotionBridge), advertising (Screentonic), and devices (Danger).

With the purchase of MobiComp, it adds mobile back-up, more advertising and social networking to the mix. MobiComp's primary products are MobileKeeper, a suite of services for storing content remotely, and Active mTicker, a mobile news feed service. MobileKeeper's social networking features allow consumers to post content to social networking sites like Facebook directly from their mobile devices.
