Geforce 9800 GTX+ to sell for $229

The Nvidia Geforce 9800GTX+ is powered by a 55nm G92 chip, it will also come at incredibly low prices. As Radeon HD 4850 comes dangerously close to the Geforce 9800 GTX 65nm-based performance, Nvidia has decided to launch a new chip / card to combat it. The Radeon HD 4850 has a suggested e-tail price of $199 in the U.S. and close to €150 in Euroland with VAT.

The Geforce 9800GTX+ GPU works at 738MHz and has significantly faster Shaders clocked at 1836mhz with up to 15 percent of a performance boost compared to Geforce 9800GTX. At the same time, the 9800 GTX+ will launch at an amazing $229 suggested e-tail price and should be available by July 15th.

At the same time, Nvidia plans to drop the Geforce 9800 GTX price all the way to $199 to make it more attractive. The question that remains is how Nvidia plans to finance such a move as there is still a load of 9800GTX 65nm cards in the channel, and especially after last week we don't think many are considering to buy one.
