Gamespot: Bioshock Surfaces on PS3; Bioshock 2 Expected Fourth Quarter 2009

Gamespot writes, "the writing has been on the wall for some time that Take-Two would be releasing its award-winning BioShock on Sony's PlayStation 3. Speculation that 2K Boston/Australia's praised dystopian shooter based on the literary stylings of Ayn Rand would land on both current-generation consoles was sparked by the game's initial announcement for "PCs and next-generation consoles." However, tangible evidence didn't come until the game's launch in August, when a reference to BioShock on the PS3 turned up in a demo for the PC game."

"The possibility of BioShock zapping PS3s was further fueled in April, when BioShock 2 developer 2K Marin indicated that it was hiring level designers that had experience developing for Sony's flagship console. Today, confirmation of the game's PS3 debut has finally arrived by way of the cover of the July issue of UK-based gaming magazine PSM3. (The news on the cover was spotted by Computer & Video Games.)"

"In March, embattled Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick officially confirmed that BioShock 2 was in development at the publisher's newly formed 2K Marin studio. No platforms for the sequel to last year's hit have been announced, but Take-Two expects the game to arrive during the fourth quarter of its 2009 fiscal year, which runs from August 1 to October 31, 2009."

so you can play the sequel on PS3.... :)

edit: lol @ disagree, I think we can expect the sequel to be multiplatform.

Condoleezza Rice5816d ago

Unless Microsoft are the publishers of Bioshock 2,it isn't looking like another console exclusive at this point.

pharmd5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

thats a longass time to wait for the sequel, but im sure it will be worth it, i hope theres some form of mulitplayer

Presentist5816d ago

I don't give a rats ass about exclusivity, as a 360 owner and a Bioshock lover I just want the sequel to be as fantastic as possible, and if that means they develop it on one platform and then port it much later, so be it.

Just make the game good, that's what matters.

TheREALHarryEtTubMan5816d ago

Um... Bioshock isn't going to be a port... it's being built form the ground up on the PS3... It's already been comfirmed... remember how long ago 2k Boston was hiring PS3 Developers??? It will sale well on the PS3 don't worry... this isn't a difference in software sales any more... in fact, PS3 sold 30 million more in Revenue than the Xbox 360 last quarter.

Bioshock 2 won't be either. The PS3 isn't getting many ports anymore. This isn't 2007.

Presentist5816d ago

Whats with all the 2 year old fanboys on this site now?

Go to the open zone, where all you non-gamers belong.

shazam5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

i dont think you know what the definition of a port is. it is using the same models, textures, engine, data etc. the only difference is that the code has been recompiled and optimized to run on ps3. its still a port unless they remake the models, textures, sound etc. and they didnt remake all that because that would be retarded. so it is still a port.

edit

also people seem to associate "port" with "bad". not all ports are bad. ports can be great if done well. just because something is ported doesnt maen its going to look worse. in fact bioshock will probably look better on ps3 than the 360.

and its all EA's fault that people think "port" is a negative term because they make horrible ports.

Presentist5816d ago

I believe you're right, and that I actually used the word "port" when it's not technically one.

I meant more that it's better for a company to build the game for one system so it can be the best it can be, then rebuild it for another platform if they decide to send it multiplatform. This assures the quality of the title is built around the specs of the system and allows more time for production.

That's all I was saying guys, chill the f**k out already.

Yes i am a goof.And atleast i have a pic up,im not shy what-so-ever

what do you have? a PS3 & 360 pic?

o0o0o0o0 arent you unique.

PoSTedUP5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

its all based on opinion, i have played it, and i dont like it. its not what i call a video game IMO. its too wierd. theirfor i cannot enjoy bioshock. haze is much better IMO.

@ above^ i was going to put a pic of all three of my playstations = )

AngryXbot5816d ago

Its a pretty good game, but hardly GOTY.

Like most 360 titles last year, this game is highly overrated. The first 9 months of 2007 was so fking boring with nothing to play that when this game came out, all the fking xbots rated it a 10.

Ridiculous.

Ill be enjoying this franchise on the PS3 and laughing at xbots losing all their games. But 360 has a lot of overrated games to be honest. Reviewers just want people to go out and buy a 360. The point is however that you cant sell a system based on lies.

People will find out about the truth and the system will be even worst off as word spreads that the system is crap.

No platform has been announced yet for the sequel.. Now Im not saying it will happen.. but how crazy would that be, if the developers loved how the ps3 worked and made Bio2 a Ps3 exclusive...

Once again Im not saying it will happen.. but that would be crazy

PR0NE5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

naahhh it's EA(=no exclusives), they will milk the title 'till the last drop... expect soon, bioshock 2010, bioshock 2011, etc... rofl...

PirateThom5816d ago

Take Two is not owned by EA, not yet.

crck5816d ago

Unless of course MS opens the checkbook like they did with the original Bioshock. But I'm sure the price will go up for the sequel. The PS3 installed base will be 3x to 4x more then when the original came out by Fall of 2k9. All depends how much the game is worth to MS as a 1 year timed exclusive.

PR0NE5816d ago

don't worry it about it guys... take two will be acquired soon, money talks...

LenHart5816d ago

mass effect is coming to PS3 this FALL

ME2 is already in development for PS3

dont worry BIOSHOCK 2 is also coming to PS3.2K cannot afford exclusivity. The company is now in huge debt BECAUSE OF X360.all of x360's 2K games mega flopped in EUROPE incurring the company HUGE LOSSES

2K will have to make something either MULTIPLAT or PS3 exclusives since any multiplat title sell more on PS3 on the basis of strong EU sales

It's fun to watch little lenhart, he pretends he's a lead beta tester. When I was a kid we pretended to be cowboys and indians and such. Guess times have changed.

Great now it won't get in the way of all the other games coming this fall and winter, so i guess i'll call this a first day buy in my book.

Breakfast5816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

Ill tell you now, It wont disappoint. One game everyone should try for its story.

@ Below...

After you meet that special someone (dont want to spoil), they gameplay + plus story goes downhill a little. But, until that point...you'll consistently be 'wowed', and the game completely draws you in.

Clinton5145816d ago

But I found the gameplay to get a bit tedious half way through.

Clinton5145816d ago (Edited 5816d ago )

And they want people to buy it after such disrespect. All they had to say was, "no comment".

Anyhow, I'm not sure how there could be a direct sequel to such an ending to Bioshock.

meepmoopmeep5816d ago

the reason they deny these things is to push sales for the platforms that the game already exists on. at least that's what i think.

prunchess5815d ago

the amount of publicity generated on sites like N4G with "Rumour - Bioshock Not Coming to PS3" and "Rumour - Bioshock Coming to PS3" is more than enough reason for 2K Boston/Australia not to confirm anything and keep it secret.

Why BioShock Deserves the Dead Space Remake Treatment

Dead Space recently received a popular remake that was faithful yet constructive, and the original BioShock is also deserving of this treatment.

gamerant.com
banger88388d ago

No it doesn't need it. It was remastered in 60 fps last gen and still looks and plays great. Would be a waste of time, money and resources imo. It's games from 3 or 4 gens back that could use the remake treatment.

FallenAngel1984387d ago

There have already been 7th gen remakes of games already

Dead Space in particular already proves that just because a game looks good on original hardware doesn’t mean it cant look and play better

Jin_Sakai387d ago

Agreed although I’m ready for some new groundbreaking IP this generation.

IamTylerDurden1387d ago (Edited 387d ago )

Agreed. Remasters already happened and still look n play fantastic. DS was a different animal. It needed a remake, Bioshock doesn't NEED it. Infinite Remastered for example is extremely viable even today. What we do need is Bioshock 4. Rumors that equated to zip. Where is it? Ken really blew the pooch as well. Left to go do what? He was inspired by Tell Tale or something and went off to become irrelevant. Nice. And Bioshock Vita was scrapped. Fantastic.

toxic-inferno386d ago

Bioshock 4 is definitely still in development. News trickles out about it every couple of months.

And Ken's next game (Judas) looks great from the teaser trailer.

IamTylerDurden1387d ago (Edited 387d ago )

Yeah. Pretty much. I understand why they did it with TLOU to coincide with the show but certainly it didn't NEED a remake desperately. Obviously u are trolling and expect me defend anything Sony but idgaf about all that. I say what i feel is the truth.

Just like TLOU i wouldn't be upset if Bioshock received a remake but it doesn't desperately need it. I'd probably even play it bc like TLOU, i love Bioshock, but in these aren't identical scenarios either. Ppl kill ND for TLOU Remake yet it wasn't even their project originaly. It started as a potential Uncharted remake and passion project via Visual Arts and was passed to Bend i believe? ND took over bc the project obviously wasn't where it needed to be. And yet they still had Factions and possibly TLOU 3 in development as well. Bioshock has been dormant for a decade bar the remaster. Rumors of a sequel haven't materialised. A remake without a sequel would be disappointing. TLOU Remake is more tolerable knowing sequel/spinoffs are in development. Like i said, dif situation.

neutralgamer1992387d ago

It's not all about looks only

Tweaks to story
Tweaks to characters
Improvements to gameplay

Original bioshock have the worst puzzle solving system and can get frustrating quickly

WiiU-Dude386d ago

The last part you said I agree COMPLETELY!!! Game companies need to mine games from the Sega Saturn, PS1 and N64 days and even the Dreamcast, GameCube, and PS2 days to give a full update to. I know those would require more work, but there are PLENTY of gems from those days that people would LOVE to play again or for the first time with a facelift!!! I know I would.

Binarycode387d ago

The games that need remaking are.

Resistance fall of man.
Motorstorm.

PS5 would produce something special.

There's been such an advancement in tech since the PS3 days. It would be awesome. DAY 1 BUY for me.

Storm23387d ago

I would kill for Resistance 1-3 Remake/Remaster. Same with MotorStorm series and Killzone series. Man, I loved my PS3. Can we also get the Metal Gear series and rescue MGS4 off the PS3? There is a rumor of MGS3 getting a remake. One of, if not my number 1, favorite game of all time.

On topic, I played Bioshock like 6 months after release after hearing from everyone and their mother how incredible it was. I know I will be in the minority on this, but I couldn't get into it. I think my expectations were too high. Totally my fault. Maybe I should give it another chance...

IamTylerDurden1387d ago (Edited 387d ago )

Agreed, Killzone as well, but Sony has no interest in the future of those IP. It won't happen. If they cared about Motorstorm they wouldn't have axed Evolution. The last remaster from a dead studio "Wipeout" was exceptional yet nobody supported it. Even with a free VR inclusion. If ppl want these remasters...actually support the ones that release. Medievil same thing. Ppl cried for Demon's Souls Remake, The Last Guardian, Shenmue 3 and the sales didn't match the cries. None of these games sold as u would imagine given the internet pleas for these titles over a decade or more. DeS Remake did alright but given the circumstances it should've sold better. 92 Meta, PS5 launch exclusive, stunning visuals, and the first of the genre in an age where Eldin Ring will push 30 million units. Yes, DeS is only one platform but still.

Binarycode385d ago

I do agree mostly with what you said.

I bought killzone,2,3. Did not like 4 other then it's graphics.

I bought infamous 1,2. Second son never did it for me apart from again the graphics, so parts were good. But world felt too empty. Probably needed a PS5 to do it justice.

Bought all the Resistance and Motorstorms, those games were awesome. They 100% need a remake.

PS3 was just an awesome machine, I know it was a pain to develop for, but it had some many titles that I loved.
I really enjoyed the Bioshock series, the first 2 were best. Very good games.

As for Demon souls.and the souls series in general. They never have had massive sales. I think because they are very hard games. we are talking a million or less. I think the remaster did 1.4million.

Motorstorm pacific rift did 1.4million PS3.I think.

Hopefully some of them will come back.

-Foxtrot387d ago

I would love this

Expand on the lore

Incorporate Bioshock Infinite and Bioshock 2 plot lines

Add room rooms or maybe even an extra area

Maybe new plasmids

Give Jack a personality and add voice acting, it worked for Isaac. Jack did speak at the start of the game so adding onto that and giving him convos between Atlas or Ryan would be great

Aussiesummer387d ago

Man could you imagine what bioshock would look like in ue5 with full raytracing, phwaaarrrhh.
