Treyarch gets Call of Duty 5: WWII approach

The reason behind Treyarch making CoD 5 is more than likely to fill in the gaps left by Infinity Wards development cycle. Some good will come out of this though, giving Cod 5 to Treyarch will free up Infinity Ward to make another awesome game appose to giving Cod 5 to Infinity Ward and demanding a Call of Duty game every year with mediocre results. P.S..where the heck are all the maps and different modes Infinity Ward said they had ready to drop into COD4? I've been putting up with Bog since the game dropped and it's still there. Let's get rid of that already.

I love COD4, but would like another WWII game to play on my console. It'd be great if COD5 had a real story like COD4 does, then we continue 4 when 6 comes out, and continue 5 when 7 comes out.

I think it's a great idea. There's no way a developer can get out one game a year that are all as good as COD4 is. Good games take time to build.

I don't think WW2 games are boring or bad but I think the theme of Dday and the European campaign is getting old. Maybe if they based the game on Iwo Jima and the Pacific campaign or the battle of Stalingrad it would be original enough to warrant a look and as it will be based on the COD4 engine it can't be too bad.

All you noobs suck on IW for the sake of it. Their games are overated, Treyarchs games are underated. Case in point:

COD3:

- Vehicles.
- Large maps (AND small ones) as opposed to small, cramped maps of COD4, which by the way, renders all sniper rifles useless.
- 24 Players.
- Games that last up to 60 minutes, instead of 15 in COD4.
- You can choose the map, and host etc.
- Capture the Flag.
- NO LAG.
- Medics
- HMG can be set anywhere.

Whereas with COD4:

- 15 minute games that last the length of a ciggerette
- Random maps
- BORING generic Middle Eastern sand maps, so many of them
- Small, stuffy cramped maps
- NO CTF - Unforgiveable.
- No medics
- No vehicles, only noobs complain about vehicles
- LAG.

Get off the bandwagon.

-No ranking
-Cant track your amount of kills and deaths
-Only about 4 maps
-Doesnt feel intense
-Barely connect to matches
-More of a run n gun online play rather than strategically planning attacks,flanks, air strikes,etc.
-At the end theres no point playing online because you will soon realize all your hours put into the game turn out to mean nothing

COD4:
-Extremely intense
-Rare lags
-Perfect sniping areas(Ambush,Bloc,Backlot,Cros sfire,Strike) so dont even say you cant snipe...unless u suck at it.
-RPG like online
-Great game modes
-Wide variety of customizations and guns
-BLOOD!!!(FINALLY)
-Knife...instead of bashing your enemy with the butt of your gun 3 times before he dies
-Crazy explosions
-Choose how you want to play(stealthily sneaking behind enemies, going rambo on the enemies, sniping them, RPGing them, disorienting them...etc.)
-ADDICTING ONLINE!

Haha that made my day. I live in the U.S. but thats a bad idea. 1 minute reload time per shot. The classic "everyone stand in a line and fire at each other battles," Dying from disease due to poor medical ability. Oh the list goes on and on. Any civil war game is a bad idea though, it's usually a bad mark on a country's history.

It would take a very different approach to make a WW1 game work. Trench warfare with just bolt action rifles and heavy machine guns? Very dull compared to WWII's submachine guns and tanks. I could maybe see some sort of RPG working, but I think it would take a pretty brilliant developer to make a good game out of it.

What I wanna see is Vietnam, although that might be too close to modern day warfare to be worth bothering with.

Hell, what I want is a great Warhammer 40k shooter. The subject matter is some of the richest around but no one has ever made a good game out of it, except Dawn of War which was reasonably good. The fusion of melee and ranged combat, the epic storyline and atmosphere and the sheer number and variety of alien races makes it very unique and it could and should make some brilliant games. I'd love to see Epic have a go. Just no sodding black stereotypes!

The development of COD5 started not long after COD3 finished, while Infinity Ward were busy working on COD4 . . . A games developments cycle is around 2 - 4 yrs depending on how much they use previous items from the earlier games assets.

If were to wait for a full cycle on games such as COD franchise, we'd be waiting 2 - 3 years between takes. Which could be the demise of the franchise in todays extremely hard financial climate, where even the biggest game developers and publishers are running into hard times.

So to keep shareholder happy, who btw, make or break a company, must be made to feel secure in their investment, which could be withdrawn at the drop of a hat, the publishers spread the load on games so that different studios do different jobs. Ubisoft do it all the time, as do EA etc either throughtheir own in-house studios, or 3rd party studios they employ.

As mentioned in the GamerZone, the development of games go for around the 2-4 years cycle (sometimes longer on new IP's with no assets to fall back on). If Activison, who are the PUBLISHERS here, as this has nothing to do with the developers Treach or Infinity Ward, wanted to wait 2-4yrs between iterations, they would loose the following of the franchise within 12 - 18 mths from fans.

WHile it's easy to say you'll wait, for the financial existence of the publishers, they simply can NOT wait that long between iterations. Gear Of War 2 has been in production before Gear hit the stands, CLiffy B had almost all the details and a large chunk of the work done story wise on the trilogy before the game even became common knowledge. But to get the hype and demand up, it would have made NO sense to state that the following game would be out and that they were already working on it.

We as gamers are more to blame than anything else.

Our constant NEED to have more games, faster, better, bigger etc etc which in trun pushers publishers to push developers to pump out games on a qucker cycle. So in order for a game franchise to succeed, it needs to have a prduct out every 12 - 18mths at tops. While the fans have very small understanding that the games next iteration is usually well into development before the first game even hits the shelves. The results of this are becoming evident, as several major publishers have dropped several major Franchises of late that were worth millions, simply because the investment was NOT giving them the return needed to offset the HUGE investment they are making in them.

Saints Row 2 was already in development about 12 month-18 mths when Saints Row hit the stands, (that's from the develpoers of Saints Row - not my assumptions) COD4 was almost 18thms into development when COD3 hit the shelves, and COD5 has been in production for a similar period when COD4 hit the shelves. Information leaked about COD5 coming from Treach as early as Charlie Oscar Delta.com made announcements about COD4 and what it would have in thegame, but it (the leak) got withdrawn off the net within hours (around 24 hrs) as it would prove damaging to the frnachise as a whole.

Hopefully each developer learns from its previous hickups and improves upon its next iteration, as we're all too keen to paint a developer or publisher with the same brush these days, many have learnt that we're no longer in the same economic game we once were, and innovation along with advancement need to be made in each following game, and I'm sure Treyach will come up with a slightly different slant on a topic which has been discussed and seen in everything from movies, books and games for god knows when, and it will continue, as it was a significant turning point in world history.

If we want games, then we have to realize that not all games will suit us, and be thankful for the ones that we do get, that have cost over 10 - 25 million to make, just for our benefit.
