It still seems odd to me that Square Enix is publishing games like Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Nope else it wouldve been mediocre for sure. Made by rocksteady it is their second game and what a game it is the biggest example of how to do a superhero game.

Couldn't they have come up with something more original than Square Enix Europe?

Actually they could since Eidos Had the right to Distribute the PC version, SE can now port a FF7 remake to any system of there choice. Including the xbox 360. :P
Can't deny the facts buddy.

Since Sony owns half of the rights to the Final Fantasy VII game, I doubt it would see light on another console. It's interesting to think about where it could wind up though, since Eidos had the rights to the PC version. Albeit, since they only have the rights to the PC version, I don't know if you'd see it on another console.

Sony doesn't actually own the publishing rights, they licensed them which means Square Enix can do what they want but Sony can publish it, with permission from SE.
After all Nintendo published some of older FF games, including the original but that didn't prevent porting to rival systems. Including the original Playstation.
Nothing would be stopping them from putting the game on any system they wanted.

Are they actuallly using Square Enix Europe as the brand? I was under the impression that Eidos had become a brand for their games and that Square Enix Europe was just the publishing division that's made up of a mix of Eidos and Square Enix's European publishers.
Taito is still used as a brand.
