James Cameron's Avatar the Game won't be as good as the film

VentureBeat's Dean Takahashi got a preview of Avatar the Game. Unfortunately, while the imagery of Pandora is beautiful, the game play of the combat is lackluster.

1 - Avatar? Please
I don't care about the game. I'm definitely sure that the movie won't be anything spectacular. James Cameron eats money.

He should learn how to direct from me.
BTW, if you want to play a game that is on a par with my films in terms of animations and excellent direction, play Uncharted 2.

Omg it's Micheal Bay.
Real or fake! That's the question.
Anyhow! The movie trailer really looked cool.

o_O James Cameron is one of the best directors (but Titanic is overrated and meh). At least it's not Spielburg or Michael Bay doing this, it would be terrible.

Well i don't think the movie is gonna be any good at all. The trailers look like crap if you ask me. They billed the movie as having tech that you have never seen in any movie before and all we get are uncanny valley effects and retarded laughable blue people. Looks like a massive waste of money and a game based on a massive waste of money will obviously be a massive waste of money.

Just because Cameron made some good stuff doesn't mean that everything he makes is gonna be gold.

Are...any games ever as good as the film?

Wanted: Weapons of Fate was pretty good though....game wise. That's all that comes to mind for me right now. Spider-Man 3 was o....no, it was lame.

The only ones i can think of are Lion King and Alladin for Genesis and Goldeneye. Seems like they just throw it on some devs and give them a strict deadline to cash in with the theater release.

Sucks because my relatives end up buying me these cause they know nothing of videogames, pretending to enjoy these is brutal.

There are many games bases on some universes that had come first in movies that are really good. The problem is usually with games tied to be released with movies, that should stick to the movie narrative and art, which usually don't work because those were not designed to be compatible with interaction.

Not to mention the crap job/low budget developing that goes into it, which is acceptable in the industry standards... Nobody really expect those games to sell anything by themselves.

Did movie game ever not fail? I guess not.
You just cant make movie game because movie story is good for movies but not for games.

Games story is good for games not for movies

Movie story: 1.5h-3h
Game Story:5-10h

Well goldeye was great game and i know 007 Nightfire is not based (from )movie but still very good game.

I think King Kong was great too.

I read in a preview this is running on the Dunia Engine (Far Cry 2 engine) and it's open world. It also has a longer script than the movie.

You might as well say "VCD's won't be as good as a DVD".

James Cameron <----- Not a gamer.

Kinda depends on how good the film turns out to be. Might set a pretty low bar for the game to hurdle.

movie games are just a way for devs to cash in on a hyped up film not to mention the movie makers getting the royalty payments, if the game came out a month or two after the film you wouldnt see to many people buy them because they know itd probly suck, thats why the movie games are generaly made to coincide with the films release so as to gain as much profit as possible i say generaly because Wanted: Weapons of Fate was one that came out some time after and didnt tottaly suck.

sadly its the mostly the kids that suffer with family members buying them terrible games that are more a form of torture than entertainment.

this film is all hype! just because you have james cameron directing it does not make it a blockbuster. when i saw the preview for it i was like, wtf?! it's going to be this generation's waterworld, you watch.

13 - Movie games are never that good
Sure, there's a handful of decent ones, and the legendary Goldeneye, but that's about it. And what makes this any different? 3D? Give me a break. The gameplay is what kills movie games. The graphics may be there and the 3D feature will be interesting, but from what I've seen, the gameplay looks repetitive and there's a definite lack of depth.

So sorry Ubi Montreal. I'll be getting AC2 from you, but not this. With all the AAA titles coming out, Avatar doesn't stand out at all.

I'll see the movie, though.
