More L4D1 updates on the way; future AI Director applications

Critical Gamer Writes: Today, we give you our interview with Left 4 Dead 2 writer Chet Faliszek. Good enough in itself; but it's turned up two very interesting comments.

A huge chunk of what makes the Left 4 Dead games so good is Valve's exclusive 'AI Director' which controls enemy behaviour, placement, and even the music; so no two games are ever exactly alike, and nothing is predictable. But could the Director be adapted for a single player game? We asked Chet and he replied:

"We have definitely thought along those lines. Replayability is just as important in single player games as it is in multiplayer games. The AI Director helps us bring that to our games so you should be looking out for variations on it in the future."

Looks like all the hoopla of a petition is for naught. Valve seemed to have kept their promise and supporting it fully even though a new release is coming. This is unheard of. Way to go Valve!!!

Some AI Director features have been used in previous Source engine games. There was a map in Counter-Strike: Source which had alternate paths, Episode Two used a simple form of the AI Director for some battles, and SiN Episodes dynamically adjusted difficulty based on how you played (get a lot of headshots and enemies will start hearing helmets or get shot a lot and bullets will take less damage).

Since they're working on a sequel I'd honestly rather them just concentrate on that, because I don't exactly plan on going back to l4d after playing l4d2...

Well Crash Course was a bridge between No Mercy and Death Toll campaigns. So they should release at least two more mini campaigns like Crash Course to fill the gap between Death Toll - Dead Air and Dead Air - Blood Harvest.

...the AI Director is used in single player. L4D has Single Player mode where everybody/thing except for you is bots.
