I dated a girl whose older sister was a WoW fanatic. To put it nicely, she wasn't the most sociable or "normal" person I've ever met. In my opinion, people with certain personality types should not play MMO's because they can cause serious social issues.

For example, someone who is antisocial and doesn't have a lot of friends, or is depressed and stays home all the time, may find an MMO very appealing, because it gives them the ability to be someone else, to escape their life and to be somewhat social online without the physical anxiety of real-life socialism. In those individuals, those traits of anti-socialism and depression only get worse in my opinion.

I am not saying that this is the case for the most part, but in my personal experience, gamers that play console games as opposed to those who play PC games or MMO's are very different in their social aptitude.

Conclusion? I don't think it's a good idea to "get" anyone to play anything. If they want to try it, by all means they should. Otherwise, leave it alone.
