Versus XIII takes a back seat to Playable FFXIII at TGS

In an interview with this week's Famitsu magazine Tetsuya Nomura has confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will be playable at the Tokyo Game Show as part of Square Enix employing a new strategy at the popular show.

This year there will not be a 'closed' area fans have to queue up to go inside to see new trailers, and instead of showing off games that are years away from release the company will focus on playable demos of titles that are close to release. Mr. Nomura particularly highlighted Final Fantasy XIII, Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and Dissidia Universal Tuning, the newly announced 'international' version of Dissidia for Japan.

With every bit of good news there's also some bad, too - this new change of strategy means that TGS will not have any new trailers, screens or other footage of Final Fantasy Versus XIII, Final Fantasy Agito XIII or Parasite Eve: The Third Birthday.

Hmm, too bad that's not why I'm not as interested in it. I like the more action/rpg style of kingdom hearts that Versus should have compared to the more traditional RPG game play of XIII. Will get XIII on my 360 so I can continue to add my gamerpoints. Will get Versus on PS3 because...well because it's not on 360. :)

Ooo, that's awesome. Hopefully I'll be able to watch some new gameplay footage.

Crystal Bearers may have actually become my most anticipated game. Even moreso than FFXIII!:O

Well the style of Vs is what makes me most stoked for that game of the current lot under development but Crystal Bearers has me interested as well seeing how it's changed so vastly and been more slow to arrive than either FF13 or Vs themselves now!

Weren't we expecting it to be totally co-op at one point? Or am I making things up just so I look dim?

Yer, well originally it looked like a follow up to Ring of Fates and it was expected to follow in that line so it would be multiplayer focused. It's also probably taken longer because Crystal Chronicles team have done at least two other games since they showed it and the Pollux Engine.

5 - No Versus makes me extremely sad
Out of every SE game (and tons of non-SE games), I've been looking forward to Versus the most. I was really wishing for at least a new trailer, or even screenshots. ANYTHING!!

Oh well, new XIII gameplay is welcome. I've still got interest in that, too.
