So basically Blizzard loses its title to its self. Wow that’s one drawback of the internet any idiot with a website can spread their retardation as news.

Sooo... Sorry Blizzard you no longer have the largest gaming community with WoW, but congrats on having the largest gaming community with Battlenet! Anyway I'm not sure about this, Battlenet seems more like a service where WoW really is a community.

3.1 - I have to agree
That is VERY stupid.

Doesn't PSN have over 20 million users?

And I imagine a lot more people use steam. So by using this websites logic, steam beats WoW.

5 - If thats the case
Then PSN wins the crown? I don't get this article, surely it should be comparing single games, not whole services like battle.net and Xbox Live?

7 - wrong
This article is kind of wrong.. WoW hasn't been dethroned... WoW accounts are now getting merged with battlenet accounts so technically, a large proportion of those battlenet accounts include WoW accounts.

What nonsense journalism. One can use a battle.net account to play WoW.

10 - something kinda wrong
Has anyone noticed the number of xboxlive subscribers?

Either I need explanation, but the number should be higher than only 8million, shouldn'it?

Maybe it's only including gold or silver members.

It's likely just gold subscribers, with silver it has close to 20 million I think but no point quoting that number of there are millions that don't game online.

If Battle.net counts, Habbo Hotel counts, and that has over 100 Million players. So, erm, well done Battle.net I guess...

12 - PSN?
Wouldn't PSN have the record then? Coulda sworn it had somethin like 27 million registered users. (might have been 24 million, cant remember). Sony should really jump on this opportunity lol.

I believe this is for paid subscriptions. There are larger free gaming communities like Yahoo games. They wouldn't qualify nor would the PSN as it's free.

As for the author of this article...he should had done his research. Battle.net is Blizzard and WoW users can tie their accounts to Battle.net if they want. Currently not mandatory, but as hard as they have been pushing WoW users to join it,I see manadatory happening in the future.

@12.2
Battle.net is also free. It doesn't make sense for battle.net and WoW to be separated as such and then say it's only for paid subscriptions.

I think what we've come across is a misinformed, confused article,
-or-
what it could be, is that it is the total number of players, over a month or so, who access their accounts and play or whatever.
Battle.net - 12 mil
WoW - 11.5 mil
ACTIVE XboxLive - 8 mil
ACTIVE PSN - ?

12.4 - @12.3
I do see what your saying as Battle.net is free to join. I'm not sure and my only theory now is that with it's paying WoW users the author didn't seperate the two. It's doesn't cost anything to play Warcraft 3 or Starcraft on there... I'm at a lose trying to figure this poorly written article out.

12.5 - Pootangpie - How many fanboys like does it take to look at the facts?
Heres a quote from sony's live blog of their press conference last week

"17:56 Jem Alexander:

Andrew House is now talking about the PSN. We have 27 million PSN users worldwide (11 million in SCEE territories). 560 million global downloads."

And just like the article says, xbox live has 8 million. Great job turning what i said into fuel for the flame war.

Not only are they merging anyway, soon making battle net "not free", but they're owned by the same company. Retarded.

@Pootangpie - nobody really knows what the actual figures of "active" psn users are, so stop talking like you know something the rest of the world doesn't.

Oh yeah, and I didn't realize the various gaming communites were split up into Steam, Live, then PSN decidedly "dead last". Why don't you enlighten us with how you figured that one out..
