Yakuza 3 American Release Still "Unconfirmed"

Kotaku writes: "Keep hope alive! It seems SEGA America's Ray Almeda misspoke and gave his own personal opinion to The Examiner that Yakuza 3 will not be released in the States because of subpar Yakuza 2 sales.

The Examiner has since run an update, explaining those remarks were not "official SEGA statements." The Examiner adds, "SEGA still hasn't made any mention of an upcoming release or revealed plans to release it stateside."

PS3 exclusive Yakuza 3 (AKA Ryu Ga Gotoku 3) was released in Japan last February, selling over 200,000 copies in its first day."

Cuz I was think of picking up the PS2 ones but I haven't been into brawlers since the Genesis, so I wasn't sure about it.

I've never been a fan of brawler, and I'm generally antithetical to the whole notion of "crime games."

But I picked up Yakuza 2 on a whim and was blown away. Honestly, Yakuza 2 is right up there with Shadow of the Collasus and Okami as being one of the few, nearly-perfect games that every gamer should play.

The Japanese producer of the games, Nagoshi Toshihiro wants to release both Yakuza 3 and Kenzan! in North America as per his words, "there's an audience that loves the Japanese aesthetic.". They brought Yakuza 2 and it was awesome. SEGA knows there's an audience here and I hope they acknowledge us. I'm a fan of the series as are many others. A series where the story comes first and the action comes second.

We're getting Way of the Samurai 3 over here in a few months. Well, only for the 360, but it's better than nothing. I just hope the balance between the Kurosawa stuff and the contemporary anime trope is better this time around.

and the fact that you got an agree means that there are two people on this thread who know nothing.

the only thing exclusive about that game to the 360 is that UFO Interactive is only publishing it for the 360, hence the reason another publisher also picked it up to put it on the PS3

A game with such a great story and characters is something very rare.

I would pay twice the normal price just to play Yakuza 3 ( Kenzan also would be awesome, I love ancient Japan and from what I' ve seen playing the demo it is so inspired! ) with english subtitles.

Oh, come on Sega, make us happy! Just advertise the game in the right way and it will sell enough also in Usa!

Sega, why everytime it has to be a love/hate relationship with you? XD

15 - wow, the Examiner is a really unreliable source of "news."
they also seem to have a "bias" for a certain console (i'll let you put 2 and 2 together and come up with the answer yourselves).

how many "updates" (read: retractions) have they had in the past week?

i'm glad i don't visit that site, but i imagine that those people that do, believing the place to be a reliable source of gaming news are the ones suffering the most.

gaming "journalism" these days is killing the industry. there's so much FUD and misinformation out there it's ridiculous.

i'm generally not one to hop on the "ban wagon," but a site that this consistently gives out false information may need to be banned from N4G.

at least some the blogs that are so frowned upon here tend to have more truth than The Examiner.
