Why We Feeling Apprehensive About Max Payne 3

It's been over five years since we last saw a Max Payne game, and fans have been been eagerly awaiting a return to the gritty film noir world presented in those games. Most people were initially pretty excited when the game was announced back in March, but since then some people have started to feel a little bit concerned that Max Payne 3 won't live up to it's predecessors.

The noire feeling is what got me to give the game a chance and play it for the first time. It lost it and lost some of its identity. Now it's coming dangerously close to looking generic. But there is still a lot of dev time left so lets keep our minds open.

1.4 - This is just a random game with Max Payne slapped on it.
First off, why the hell is he bald?? It's like every male game character lately has no hair (except Drake). Is it that much of a PITA to render hair? also, Max Payne could have been down and out in NY city, He didn't need to go to some tropical hell hole. (even though, that does seem to be a standard plot point for City cops in movies. the main character is tired of the job and city and wants to buy a house on the coast in some tropical locale and retire early) It is just such a change from the games that we all loved to play that it is shocking. I missed the brooding noir atmosphere of the first game. The City coated in a thick, muffled blanket of snow from an ongoing, record breaking snowstorm. It gave the feel of cold,dark isolation. that Max was truly alone in his quest for justice.

The game may very well be great. But, It just doesn't fit with everything that made Max Payne a classic.

I guess we will just have to see, you never know, they may just change a few things after hearing all this dissent and, at the least GIVE MAX HIS HAIR BACK!!!

Wow, thank you from Brazil. I agree when you say about the cold feeling of previous games, they maybe have gone wrong, but no need to say it like that.

Anyway, just try to not perpetuate this kind of behavior, everything is bad enough about regionalism and whatnot..

The place depicted in the game looks like a place I would not want to vacation. damn, I'm from NY and I don't get my panties in a bunch when movies show parts of NYC in a bad light. because there ARE bad areas in NYC. are you saying there isn't any area in Brazil that is dangerous or dystopian?

Sorry madpuppy I thought you were generalizing, it has been very common..

Here in Brazil this kind of scene is very common, on the called "favelas", big and poor communities scattered all around the big cities. We just have to find a way to live together, while the corrupt government does its stuff over and over again. But, yes, we have hell holes like that everywhere almost, I just thought you were calling all the stuuf a hole alltogrther, sorry ;P

5 - Im gonig to reserve judgement till I lpay the game
I loved max payne bac in the day on pc. I still use the max payne mouse pad that it came with.

We should give the game a chance before we write it off as garbage just because hes bald and it takes place somewhere else.

maybe the ingredients for valkeyre come from some tropical country. Maybe max shaved his head because it was hot. Maybe his hair fell out because of the stress of having everyone he ever loved or cared about murdered.

having an out of shape character in a video game is pretty original, as every character in videogames now is some buff guy or a chick with huge boobs and a thong.

this game will be different because its a 3rd person shooter with bullet time.

Some areas may be bright but the game could still have a gritty and dark atmosphere as well. I think in real life some 3rd world country at night would be ALOT more scary than NYC ever could be.

give max a chance.

Also theres a chance that hes trying not to look like himself, as in "Fugative undercover cop with nothing to loose" only he might not be a cop anymore.

Heres an original idea, lets wait for some previews at the very least before we start bashing a game.

I'm going to reserve judgement too untill I get some hands on time, or at least see the game in action. Also, the new Max isn't fat, he just spent sometime on the bench press, and hasn't done any sit ups.

It's because he's fat, people don't want to play as a fat video game character for some reason. It would be cool of all those screen shots we're from some prologue mission and then he goes back to the old Max Payne look. Except with a bald head of course.

and people are ready to assume they know EVERYTHING about the game. You're seeing one level that takes place in Brazil that's more than likely the beginning of the game that sets up for a great experience.

Everyone says GTAIV had great writing and all that so why would this be any different?

15 - If remedy isn't making it, then it's acceptable to feel apprehensive.
I really don't like it when another dev studio acquires the rights to make the sequel to a much beloved IP. Didn't Remedy and Microsoft have a quarrel about Max Payne 3? I'm not a hundred percent sure about this, and I might just be thinking of another developer, but I thought I read somewhere that Remedy told Microsoft that they would make Max Payne 3 after finishing Alan Wake, and Microsoft wanted Max Payne 3 sooner, or something like that, so another studio got to make it. I might be wrong. Of course, why would Microsoft be pushing for the development a multiplatform title? They should be thinking more about exclusives.
