What's the deal with Regional Exclusive Games?

The Power Review: It just so happens that most of the regional exclusives that anyone cares about are only on the Playstation 3. This is simply because since Sony is a Japanese company, there are more developers for the system that don't have the funding to pay for the localization of their games. Additionally, there are larger Japanese companies that release games in Japan almost a full year before they are available anywhere else in the world.

That's the way it's been for decades now. The internet just makes you more aware of it. Japan always gets first pick at games developed within their borders. The devs there aren't going to make their loyal fans at home wait for our benefit. Same thing happens practically everywhere else.

Besides, we'll get most of those games mentioned since they have localisations plans already. The only one I don't know about is Demon's Souls.

the Asian version is in english so i doubt it will get any localisation, so the guy is complaining that Japanese games don't reach the US fast enough? Its same for Japan no? KZ2 took awhile to reach japan if I am not wrong Top Spin 3 will be out in Japan on 28 of May 2009

Check out the delays for GTA games too. There are loads of other big name titles which take their time to get to Japan from all the big companies. I'd list a few but the ones that come to mind are all for the 360 and I don't want to seem biased.

This is true. If a game has alot of hype shouldn't it get translated in English while it gets translated for JP? Games like Tales of Vesperia, SO4,IU, LO, Blue Dragon, ES came out rather quickly. But when it comes to PS3 rpgs t takes forever like were in the PS2 era. Folklore took a long time, VC, Disgaea 3, Cross Edge, and WKC as well. I hate getting excited for new rpgs because it takes long t oactually play it.. If Sony keeps on getting complaints, shouldn't they get more involved to get these rpgs out faster? Even Eternal Sonata PS3 took much longer for the US to get it while the 360 version got it rather quick. Maybe its that MS pays them to do localize fast? lol

Yakuza has a good excuse for not coming. Nobody showed interest in the first version over here. So they cancelled Yakuza 2's domestic release, and I heard somethng about Sega will think about it if US people get together to help promote it or something idk kinda forgot.

I wish WKC got tons of new stuff lke Rogue Galaxy did. Hopefully they add new stuff. Like your created character can now transform into a knight. It would cool if you can customize and color your own huge knight for your avatar.

Thing is.. Yakuza 3's.. I don't know what to call it but to say like its core or the whole dialogues/concept is going to be off the track through localization. It's almost impossible to just carry over the idea of what the game is supposed to be to the foreign lands. Especially in English or the outcome will be abysmal in this case. One of the reasons why SEGA is holding it back.

na thats not it. If thats the case they would had never released Persona 3 and 4. Both of them are Japanese culture. Plus Yakuza 1 came here. Its all just a matter of sales. With the right ads and hype the game will do fine over here.

9 - This is how Japanese do business
This is actually an age-old practice for many Japanese industries, like fashion, automobile, electronics, toy, etc. Japanese always view the world market as Japanese vs. non-Japanese. They always leave the “best” products exclusively for themselves. In the good-old 80’s, a lot of the best Walkman from Sony were sold old in Japan.

Of cause, in the age of internet & FedEx, this becomes more & more ridicules. Just look at the items offered in PSN. They are highly “regional exclusive”. This only limit their customer base & their potential sales. Basically Sony, or many Japanese developers, telling to non-Japanese customers is: We don’t want to sell our games to you. You non-Japanese customer are not good enough for our product.
