This Sunday's opinionated retro rant is about Black, the Criterion-built shooter that graced the last generation of consoles towards the end of their shelf life. During the following, somewhat feverish discussion of its impact, or tragic lack of impact, at no point shall Eurogamer mention that a game released in 2006 cannot be considered retro.

I also loved Black to an unhealthy extent. Can't believe he didn't mention the ear splitting weaponnry and exlosions in the game though. It's a great game but sticks in my mind for being easily the loudest I've ever played.

this was the funnest FPS on the ps2 i ever played
the missions were long and intense and the graphics were amazing
i hope they put it on ps3 in a sequel
i traded god of war 2 for this game but not for keeps
but the guy sold my gow2... sniff

1.6 - *looks at what's in Xbox 360*
Oh look... I have BLACK in my 360 right now. Played it for a spell this past week and still love that game. One of my all time favorite titles for last gen. The sounds and screen mayhem were some of the best ever done in an FPS.

I too loved Black. Too bad the guy never finished the game or he could have found out the awesome ending to it that took me by surprise. Also I see CoD4 as taking nods from Black. Golden weapons and silencers you could place on almost every gun. Black was indeed ahead of it's time.
