I can only tolerate it because I like the people that work in the local Gamestop. Their corporate policies are shiesty as hell, though, so I'm often conflicted about giving them money.

I never go to an actual store. The Gamestop employees by me are the typical douchebags that you always hear about, and the prices are always as high as possible.
Amazon...I once again profess my love for thee.

I <3 Amazon.
Too bad they still give gamers the shaft when it comes to trade in values. Oh well.

I think the only bad thing about GAME in the UK are their prices. Their store is clean, it doesnt smell like a changing room, their staff are pleasent and they usually have what you want.

Game are okay. Although I hate when I'm in the queue and happen to hear their banter with the customer at the front of the cue who is buying a Wii.
"We're flinging Wii Sports in with that for free," says the, typical, burly manager.
"Oh really? That's great! Isn't it Darling?" exclaims the chuffed Dad-like figure.
The Mum-like figure confirms my suspiciousness with: "Yes dear; the kids will love that!"
This is usually followed with the few hardcore gamers looking at each other to see if anyone is bemused as they are about the transaction unfolding in front of them. At the same time, a free pink Wii-remote jacket is flung into the deal, met with unfounded joy by the parents.
...I feel for the boy.
Usually I just put my head in my hands and hope that they aren't gullible enough to fall for 'Buy a Wii and get the box free!' trick. Oh dear...

I pretty much always go to HMV for my RPGs, they're great for the RPGs because they don't sell much in HMV but they keep stocking them which means they fall in price in a relatively short time but for new releases it's not as good except on the DS(the highest I've seen a game at is £30 like everywhere else).
HMV has also started doing used games now and I'd trust the people at HMV more than at Game or Gamestation(although the people in there are pretty cool too).

HMV do indeed do used games now, as do Amazon. Seems everyone wants a slice of the GameStop pie.
HMV once gave me a thousand Microsoft Points for pre-ordering Lost Odyssey, bless 'em.

I've never really had a bad experience with Gamestop. Some of their business practices seem a little questionable but other than that they seem to be alright.

I like buying games retail if for no other reason than I abhor the painstaking process of waiting for stuff to arrive in the mail. That, and I live within walking distance of a couple Gamestops, and contrary to many reports, the employees at the Gamestops near me generally know what they're talking about. But I may just be lucky that way.

I can't stand retail purchases of videogames nowadays. HMV staff have no clue what they're selling half the damn time and GameStation staff are four miles up their own arses.
GAME seem to have got it fairly right though, their prices are fair without selling us or them short, and their exclusives and trade-ins make them a personal favourite, especially after they took a new copy of GH:Aerosmith off my hands.

Retail can be frustrating and I agree that with the deals you can find online it makes little sense to go to the store anymore.
Part of the problem I guess is that I still like browsing in stores. I go to my local Gamestop almost weekly, often just to look around. The staff there actually know me by name not because we've ever had a formal introduction but because I've done so much business there.
Add to that my general impatience when waiting for packages to ship and the value of a good deal sometimes means less to me.

I love browsing too, it's great if you see game that you wouldn't have got otherwise.
