IGN shows us how NOT to inform

IGN recently ran an article detailing the amount of money independent game developers could possibly make, in which they cited 2D Boy and their successful game World of Goo. At least, that's what the article was supposed to be about.

Yes, even though IGN has info that Cookigaki is interested in, Cookigaki does not visit the site. Game Informer is much better.

Agreed, Game Informer is much better and seemingly less evil.

I'm sure they are evil too. They just hide it better.

GI is awesome. I don't understand how they keep stuff secret until the magazine hits the streets. How does the internet not find this stuff first?

Yeah, and how does Game Informer itself keep its information from getting leaked early?

Yeah and their website is always behind their magazine. I almost don't understand why they even have a website.

Well I can answer that. The website is behind because if it wasn't nobody would need to get the magazine. But the website also has extra pictures and stuff for the "unlimited enabled" stuff.

Oh man I totally hate IGN and their bullsh!t. I'm glad other people are willing to call them out on their strong arm tactics. Like not linking to sources wtf! IGN doesn't need to bogart the internet like that and pretend like they have all the information. Assholes.

Bogart the internet, lol. But I agree with you, ign gets enough hits already that they shouldn't be stealing from everyone else.

I don't doubt that they are advertising their online service; Direct to Drive, most companies are opting for going for the profits instead of really objectively reviewing the game.

Come on guys, IGN is one of the few gaming sites that i actually care for what their saying, their heavy and professional.

If we expect a large company as big as IGN not to advertise some of it's services in some of the thousands of articles they have, then we are naive and living in a pink world where every body hug each other.

I'm not one to defend IGN because I think it's terrible, but in all fairness, I didn't even know what Direct2Drive was before they wrote that silly faux article. Mission accomplished, I guess. :/

See, that's exactly the type of BS that IGN is known for... if you pay attention enough to catch it.

But what do you do? There are worse sites than IGN in any case AND in fairness they have got a couple of guys that I feel can actually review okay and write a decent piece. Yes, they conduct themselves sh1ttily at times but by getting called out maybe they'll learn their lesson. Bottom line, for me, is that sometimes you have to put up with the crap to get the decent stuff and while they have shade meisters about the place that shouldn't stop you reading those few with talent-whichever site they write for.

Faux ad features are pretty shoddy but failing to link is worthy of a proper public apology in my book but should that stop someone from reading those writers that do things correctly even at IGN?

That's a really good point, but I don't think IGN really has anything that I absolutely can't find anywhere else. I also haven't read it often enough to know which individual writers are any good, and as far as reviews go, I usually see the scores on n4g so I don't have to go to the site. Plus, they've made enough mistakes in their reviews that I don't completely trust them anyways.

I don't think the folks behind "Top 10 Video Game Asses" should be criticizing IGN's journalistic integrity.

You apparently don't know what "integrity" means.
