Totally agree that the plot is a complete waste of time in many games. Most titles put no effort into storytelling...so why bother?

I think that MGS4's narrative missed the mark in a few key areas--especially the godawful ending--but I enjoyed it overall. Other games (Timeshift immediately comes to mind for some reason) just wasted my time with needless exposition.

Without the story I really wouldn't play MGS, It's just one of those games that I crave for. The story is just brilliant.

I am not "a lot of people." As a fan of the MGS series, I really enjoyed the story for MGS4.

Newcomers to the series may be a little lost. But hey, go pick up the 1-3 pack an enjoy some great games with a great story. Then you can enjoy MGS4 that much more.

I did'nt understand the plot being that this was the first MG that I played. I liked it well enough that I went back and played MGS3.

are older gamers,they would understand the plot.they're adults.and this comparison is dumb.

most kids who play don't like to hear or read and like to skip the story and jump to the gameplay.they fail to see or want a good narrative.they just want to play.

we also see 360 fans NOT wanting long stories like MGS that flesh out the storyline.just by the amount of XBL gamers online,it seems that the install base is filled with children who just want to play.

the flipside of the community is the ones that say long stories aren't necessary because of their need to defend the dvd disc medium.bluray can be filled with whatever you want.more story and more gameplay.it is the developer's choice on what ps3 gamers get.they could fill the disc with a full movie and give you a game that concentrates just on gameplay.

examples:wardevil is a future ps3 title that is getting a movie as well as a game.but BOTH can be included on disc.just like ps3 fans could get stranglehold **AND** hardboiled on one disc to help with fleshing out the story.it's developer's choice.

MGS has a history.comparing it to skating that has no history doesn't make sense for this article.you skate.you do tricks.

WHAT STORY DO YOU NEED?

and hideo wanted to provide background information to FANS who want to hear more about his interpretaion of past history and characters that lived in his version of history.and his take on modern issues we deal with today and maybe tomorrow.

**fans** and adults who **READ** will understand it.and want more of it.the developers can spend as much as they want on it as i look forward to it.the story was GREAT.the gameplay was GREAT.the amount of content including online was GREAT.the graphics was GREAT.would you want 3 out of 4?or 4 out of 4?

i know i may be one of the few who could care less about online multiplayer, but i buy a game based on only the single player portion of the game, and for me, a game needs to have a decent story for me to play it. Ex, God of War, good gameplay but thats not what got me first intrested in the title, it was the small story details, and the art directions of the game. Same thing for indigo prophacy, AC, Resistence1&2, Mirrors Edge, and so on and so forth. My point is, games are more then just, "plug-and-play" they are virtual movies that are interactive, and the MGS series, if u pay attantion to the details of the story, will actually make u sit back and enjoy. thats my 2 cents.
