Considering the games about exploring i don't really see how you can aim for a Mature rating without just adding the odd swear word or splash of blood.
I would rather them try for a more mature story and give Lara a bit of depth than just turn it into tombs of war.

Too little too late. Ms Croft is old now. Even if they try to do the next one more gritty and mature themed. I doubt any of the new(er) gamers will flock to it, specially with Uncharted 2 coming out soon.

Darker doesn't mean better (ex. Prince Of Persia 2). Profanity doesn't mean better (Frank Miller's Batman)

Where else can they go now? In the past they whole sex sales scene was never an option. Which they stood by for years and years. Since Tomb raider was out people have dreamed of a more sexy lara. I remember for years how the "nude" code cursed gamers. Will they go this route? Yes and no.

Yes i'm sure it will be a more visual in violence and sexuality. It wouldnt surprise me to see Lara in a thong bikini running around. Far as nude goes? Well we'll see. Seeing lara naked has been the fantasy of gamers for years.

Like other said, it would sell like wild fire. I mean look at all the attention it has instintly got them. Soon as you hear Tomb raider and M rating, flashing lights start going off.

Personally I think the series could benefit a M rated overhaul and I don't mean in the way of tons of blood guts swearing and sex. What I mean is to make the game deeper in terms of storyline. While the Tomb Raider games have always had a story none of them have ever been that deep and I think that's something the game would benefit from.

Personally I would say that hope is not lost for the series. Alot of people thought this was the case and then along came Legend which proved the series could still be prevalent even today. If Mario can stay popular all these years there is no reason Lara can't Eidos just needs to figure out what to do.
