Is Final Fantasy XIII Gonna Hold More Then 5 DVD's?

Now, I am looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII, alot.

It is my most antcipated title for 2009 with the likes of Killzone 2, Heavy Rain, Halo 3: Recon, Forza Motorsport 3 (hopefully), the new Team ICO game (hopefully), Resident Evil 5, Molyneux's next game, COD: MW2 etc etc.

Now, I am gonna get it for the PLAYSTATION 3 as since Final Fantasy VII, my first FF game like probably most of you, was on the PlayStation and since then, I have always felt that Final Fantasy was naturally played on a PlayStation.

Now, dont get me wrong, Final Fantasy XIII on the Xbox 360, I wasnt angry about it, infact, I was really happy. Shocked but happy (even after the announcement, I persudaded myself to get the Xbox 360 version as it was that big) as now, gamers who had either a PS3 or 360 could play the game when it came out.

But if you have a PS3, the evidence your about to see is saying to you, get the Blu-Ray verison.

Now, we all know The Last Remnant and Final Fantasy XIII as well as Versus XIII will all come on a single Blu-Ray disc when released for the PS3 next year but there is a worrying catch here for the Xbox 360 verison.

For Final Fantasy XII on the PS2, it only needed 1 DVD (Mind you, it wasn't exactly optimized for the next gen consoles) and yet, the Xbox 360 has to use several DVD's for the RPG's on the Xbox 360 so far like:

- Blue Dragon - 3 DVD's
- Lost Odyssey - 4 (4!!!) DVD's
- Infinite Undiscovery - 2 DVD's
- The Last Remnant - 2 DVD's
- Star Ocean: The Last Hope - 3 DVD's

I got Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon very recently and I was gobfounded to find how many discs there was for the games. So just imagine how many discs Final Fantasy XIII will hold on the Xbox 360 compared to one Blu-Ray on the PS3.

I know this is sounding like the most obvious thing but here is the question. How many DVD's will hold Final Fantasy XIII?

Personally, I'd be gobsmacked if it was anything less then 5 discs and even more shocked if it was over 5.

1 - I`m saying.......
6

I can`t wait to see the case, it`s gonna be like a boxset of a show on DVD.

Lets put it this way.......

I remember a artical saying that FF13 would be the 1st game on a 100gb disc for PS3, like MGS4 was the 1st on a 50gb disc.

So that basically confirms it`s over 50gbs. (if the artical was correct, i`m pretty sure it was from Square but I could be wrong.)

Hmmmmmm, 6 actually might not be enough.

What if FFXIII is being downgraded for the X360 and Square-Enix isn't saying nothing? Why we have to wait for the X360 version to be ported... Why? Maybe to make both versions equal?

I doubt that FFXIII on the PS3 is going to be downgraded just because SquareEnix is going to make a 360 version. FFXIII has been in development for years, and it's not like Square is just going to put that all to waste and just downgrade everything they've worked so hard to optimize for the PS3.

At this point, SquareEnix probably doesn't even have their minds on the 360 version because they are only focused on developing the game on one platform first (PS3) and executing it the best they can.

If both the 360 and PS3 versions had been in development at the same time, then yeah, I would think that there would be a possibility of the game being downgraded, but the PS3 version will be completed FIRST, and then the 360 version will be ported after the PS3 version is finished.

When it comes to why we all have to wait for FFXIII to be ported to the 360 before it's released in the U.S. and Europe for the PS3, it's probably because Microsoft paid Square a good chunk of money to do so because I can't think of any other reason.

I think that Final Fantasy XIII on the 360 will be at least 5 DVD discs minimum, but I wouldn't be surprised if it came on 6 discs.

I definantly think that FFXIII will be a 50GB game and I wouldn't be surprised if it surpassed 50 gigs because, it has been optimized for the PS3 ever since development first started, the high quality visuals, and if LittleBigPlanet was 40GB, I'm pretty certain FFXIII will be 50GB minimum.

Square said that there shouldn't be as many disks as one would think because FFXIII has more cut scenes using the in-game engine. So I suspect 2, 3 at the most. Square also said that they are putting great effort into keeping the quality the same on both consoles.

Unless SE decides to gimp the game in some way shape or form it is most likely going to have at least 6-7 discs if not more. To be honest the 360 version makes me laugh. If Square is really telling the truth about using the PS3 to the games full advantage then the 360 version is gonna be gimp or not perform nearly as well. I'm talking massive slow down and screen tearing issues which are already present in games like Gears 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2 and it's safe to say that those 2 games didn't push the 360 as far as FFXIII will upon it's release.

SE has had a bad enough rep on the 360 that I would think they would be extra careful to avoid slowdowns and tears.

6.2 - Gears2 and NG2
Playing them on DVD they dont have massive slow down issues NG2 has slow but Gears2 doesnt has any and loading sign is also very rare and short in Gears2. Also Gears 2 doesnt looks half bad try it,amount of action and size of levels where large and it best looking game on 360 put any multiplat none of them are crossing it in graphics you can count Dead Space, Fallout3 too.

I'm pretty positive that the PS3 version will look better solely because its the console that the game is being developed for and its being ported. I think PS3 owners have a lot of experience when it comes to that. But I think that both versions will push its system to its limits.

@ Johny what is so naive about it. Virtua fighter 5 a ps3 led game looks better on the 360 port. So does Oblivion goty edition on the 360.
For some odd reason ps3 led 360 ports look better than their ps3 counterparts.

JC, I think you're bang on at about 5 discs for the 360 version. Still don't get why SE let FF13 stay exclusive in Japan though-surely that would have been the very first thing MS wouldn't have wanted-but hey who knows.
Also I dunno if FF13 will push that near the PS3's limits-not with SE's first game on the system and not if they want to keep the disc number sensible for the 360 port-maybe, I know it's been a long development but, as I say, I can't quite see it.
It's a no brainer to get the PS3 version if you own one(or both consoles even)because of the disc issue alone(also, most SE fans I know got PS3's before the announcement about the 360 was made in any case). When you factor in the poor efforts for 360 on an ill suited engine the preference becomes very one sided. Also those games were nowhere near the scale of FF13 so even though 4 discs was sloppy for LO even with the very best optimisation you'd think that 5 or 6 discs would be the best bet for the 360 edition-unless there's magic at hand.

13 - "Is Final Fantasy XIII Gonna Hold More Then 5 DVD's?"
Most likely, their not going to spend 5 years making a game for it to be only 1 or 2 disks. They are starting on the ps3 so if they are putting they're all into it it will most likely end up being 4-5 disks on 360.

14 - I hate to be one of those spelling nazis, but it's not more "then", it's More "than"...
...just wanted you to know.

Other than that, nice article. :D

I also realize that "nazi" isn't capitalized; I do not wish to respect the word.
