2003: The Worst Year Gaming Ever Saw

Games like Aquaman, Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness and Postal 2 are infamous among gamers for being infamously bad. But what many people don't realize is that all three games, as well as many other memorable stinkers were released in the same year as the absolute worst game ever conceived.

That year was 2003.

1 - Oh Bigs Rigs....
When fanboys say that Halo 3, or Resistance 2 is the worst game they've ever played. I wish I could lock them in a room with Big Rigs and make them play it until they begged for a game on their rival system.

Oh come on! 2003 wasn't THAT bad. We got Final Fantasy X-2 and that was good, wasn't it?

Worst FF game I have ever played by a long way. I remember really anticipating it, but it was just broken, had an utterly lame and almost non-existent plot, a shoddy battle system, repetitive quests, and was incredibly short unless you did more boring quests. I had no incentive to play it again after I went through it in a few hours.

Actually it wasn't that bad, checking gamespot there was Call of Duty and Max Payne 2 i.e.

And Postal 2 was ok but the fun didn't last long once you have seen everything.

The mind will block out traumatic events so the chances are that you did play Big Rigs at some point but the shock put you in a coma.

What has 2003 ever done for us? Apart from Beyond Good and Evil (ok the plot is quite cliched), Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (ok, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and various other games have made it look dated), The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (although time has only been kind to the visuals in my opinion, not most of the islands), Viewtiful Joe (ok, I haven't actually played it since), 1080 Avalanche (very under-rated- great game), Max Payne 2: The fall of Max Payne (excellent if very similar to the first game) Mario Kart: Double Dash!! (OK, Crash Team Racing on the PS1 remains by far the best karting game ever).

I can see the point of the article in some ways- it was a year wedged between the brilliance of 2002's Metroid Prime and 2004's huge array of sequels eg Half Life 2, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, Metroid Prime 2 and the almost cult-like hit Red Dead Revolver.

2003 had Rare's Grabbed by the ghoulies by the way- although it was repetitive, and I am in no rush to play it again, it was still good to see an Xbox game that was about simple fun in a classic haunted house setting.

15 - Postal 2?
Oh, come on, that game was the sh!t. Lighting people on fire and then peeing them out? And then peeing yourself out when you catch yourself on fire?! I think I ROFLed for a good hour when I first discovered that.

There were MANY worse games than that....can anyone say "Fugitive Hunter: War on Terror"?! Worst game ever.
