I think I need a new laptop too, though my desktop should be able to handle it, only an 8800 GTS in it but that shouldn't be a problem unless Blizzard absolutely floors it somehow between now and then.

It was the 640 MB version, I bought it before the 512 MB revisions, which are superior, were out.

Well, more then 640 is only useful if you run at 64 bit anyways. Same goes for the 4 gig memory, its useless on 32 bit systems.

All in all I think I should be ok for all but the highest settings, keeping in mind that if you play 1v1 or something it should also be able to handle unit peak numbers on screen.

I'm amazed on hos much information is really available in the public, even if all Blizzard OFFICIALLY said was "Pixel Shader 2.0".

Sure, that AMD report was quite extensive, but wasn't intentional to be released, most likely... ;)

Luckiest find I probably ever made in my research. Glad we found that AMD document hidden away on thier server with an open hyperlink. True most other sites then copied it to use it un turn, but we made it there before any other fansite did :) I hope I get to be able to make a discovery like that again.

Been looking forward to this for quite a while! Good article, nice setup, but I disagree on the 9800GT! I'd rather get a 750i mobo, stick a 9600GT in there and go for SLI later. The 9800GT in SLI scales like *****, which is a shame, the stock version costs as much as an overclocked 9600GT! For the rest, the E7200 is a good processor for a good price! 2GB should definitely be enough for SCII, not to forget that XP 32-bit doesn't support more than 2GB! Vista isn't so bad anymore, first I had a BSOD like every day or so, but after SP1 it works like a friggin' charm! =)

i am putting a new rig together, i usually buy a new pc when consoles are in their third life year.

This way i can enjoy the latest gfx every 2/3 years.
2/3 years from now the new gen consoles should arrive.

If you read the article itself you will find that the Graphics requirements have been confirmed. The fuzzy part is calculated based on comparable products and by deduction.

For those who are planning to be really competitive I expect them to go get a fast (recommended) system but still play on a lower details setting to prevent any slowdowns from occurring.

It'll run it all right, but definitely not on the highest settings. Medium should do fine at perhaps 1024x768. But I can't say for sure, we'll just have to wait for the bèta, then I'm going to do some serious testing! ^^
