Sonic is dead.

He has been for years.

I think Sega just stopped caring about the character when they didn't have a console riding on his popularity.

To be fair though, the dive in quality can easily be attributed to too many characters. When there's a game called "Sonic the Hedgehog", I want to play most of the game as Sonic. Sonic Rush is the best Sonic game in YEARS!

It's 2D, it's fast paced, the level design harkens back to the old days and, most importantly, there's only two playable characters!

I don't think its fair to count out Sonic so soon. After all, Unleashed hasn't even came out yet, let alone the upcoming demo.

Wait for the demo first before you declare a funeral for the little hedgehog.

Edit: If a franchise was truly dead, it would look alot like a game called Bubsy 3D

This is so damn true. I want Sonic to be handed over to nintendo or someone that could do the franchise proud. Only problem with it being handed over to nintendo is the game would be on the wii. I want to see an adaption to this generation of consoles that Sonic damn well deserves. The formula for a Sonic game is so simple, how can they keep messing it up?

I'm praying to God that Sonic unleashed day time areas turn out to be kickarse. They will receive such a great reaction to it that they might form a decent storyline and remove that terrible idea of making sonic a hedgehog. Whoever came up with that thought has got serious misinterpretations of what the fans want. He should be fired. I want Sonic to return to his glory, I don't care how they do it. Just do it Sega.

Can't they delegate the best in their company they have towards revitalizing Sonic? Please do not tell me Sonic unleashed is the best they can do. Just look at Valkyria Chronicles. If they can come up with something of that quality don't try and tell me they can not do it with Sonic. I'd rather wait 3 years for a fantastic out of this world new game for Sonic (similar to the greatness of Mario galaxy) than get these crummy half attempted games released every year. PULL THE ACT TOGETHER SEGA. You're killing the biggest franchise you have. But it's not too late. It may be in a dire state but it's still possible to rescue it.

C'mon Sega... Just try for the ultimate Sonic game. Do everything within your company's power to make a Sonic game so great, so marvelous that even Mario would be proud of. Don't get lazy. Most importantly, and this really is the biggest mistake you've got going. I can't emphasize this enough but I'm hoping the use of capitals will give me a fraction of the force I need to get this through your heads.

But it seems like this guy is going on about nothing. He's b!tching that there is a pic of Sonic with a sword and that they want to give him one at some point in the game. He doesn't think of what the story might be or anything. There was alot more that was said about why Shadow failed rather than him having a weapon.

I know there's alot of issues with the Sonic series that Sega needs to address with this game, but this seems to be just reaching for something to complain about.

I made a LBP level of sonic's first level: Green Hill Zone (if you want to try it out i think you can search Ofx360 or search Sonic). It's pretty cools stuff.

Anyway, Sonic the Hedgehog(the first one) was the first game I ever played; the game I grew up with; was what got me hooked on videogames; and is by far my favorite(and the best) sonic game to date. So its sad to see what has happened to my favorite speedy hedgehog friend. I really hope sonic goes back to 2d, those games where my favorites.
