Treyarch finally trump Infinity Ward - Call of Duty: World at War - Gameplayer

It was this very week last year when we told the world that co-op was coming to Call of Duty. At the time we'd been on the piss with then Infinity Ward head honcho Grant Collier, who had given us the heads-up that plans were afoot to bring a co-op mode to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare via DLC.

We told you, you said 'yay' and it never happened. We'll probably never know why, although kickass sales and an avid online community no doubt took the pressure of Infinity Ward's bank balance enough that they could do without a co-op DLC cash injection six months after launch...

"Treyarch finally trump Infinity Ward"

Though the parting words somehow contradict: "Clearly they still remain in separate classes....There can only be one Gold Medal winner. Thankfully, Silver ain’t bad either."

I'd prefer to be a little discreet first until COD5 get those several GOTY awards too like COD4 garnered back then.

Anyway, I'm hoping COD reverting back to WWII setting would still be fun.

This isn't CoD5 it is CoD: World at War. CoD5 will be reserved probably for Inf. Ward's next iteration into the series. Kinda like how Treyarch did Big Red One, I think from now on you will see Trey get spinoffs and not full sequel names.

This is Cod5, but the next cod game wont be with a number either.

As Activision has learned via tony hawk, if you put a number next to a game, and that number starts getting too high... ppl stop buyin.

Agreed.

I dont think Treyarch can...trump...their own trumpet, let alone Infinity Ward.

3 - Well
I am guessing that refers to the four player co-op, which it sounds like Infinity Ward couldn't get happening in CoD4. So trumps it in that respect even if it isn't a better game overall.

Whatever, sounds wicked to me. Love co-op. Won't play four, but two player split-screen = giddy up! I can assume this locks it in for CoD 6 too... assuming they use the same engine.

i'm doubting it, the game looks like it could be fun but from the videos the AI looks even dumber than COD4 and personally i think the wwII thing just needs to rest for a while

wouldn't mind seeing a vietnam call of duty though, thats one parts of history that isn't represented in games very well

this game ahs some stiff competition in november, msot 360 players are going to be all over gears of war and i'm seeing this game being a sleeper

it will sell a lot but probably not right at release, probably pick up more players at christmas, which is when i'm buying it if the reviews are decent

4.1 - Are you kidding?
I'll wait for the definitive PC version. I'm not gonna fall for the trick this time by buying the console version.

Good things come to those who wait. I'll save my hard-earned $$$ for really worthy console games...:)

Isnt this game using the engine that Infinity Ward developed?

So I dont think you can give Treyarch all that much credit

6 - If the game is crap...
Then no matter the number of extras that come with it makes no difference. If COD5 is anything like COD3 then you can bet this game is a rental at best while COD4 has been a purchase for me on both consoles. Two sets of friends, two games and COD4 has been worth for me since it was launched.

COD3 wasn't that bad.

I liked it, it was a hell of a lot different and the unskippable cutscenes were annoying, but it was still a solid title.

If this is more of the same then I don't mind, but it's still nice to know that they've put their full effort into making this the best game possible.

Eh, I'm looking forward to it.

I think I'm the only FPS-lover in the world who thought COD4'S multiplayer was boring after a short while.

The single player was excellent, and I didn't care how short it was, but the multiplayer was boring after a couple of weeks. Everything in it had been done before in other games, and done better.

Bad Company is a way better multiplayer game. It beats the pants off of every single FPS on any console out there.

In other words, COD5 has a great chance of being better than COD4. Will it? I don't know. But since COD4 wasn't that hot to begin with...

See, now I feel the exact opposite about what you said. I still play COD4 while I got rid of Bad Company 2 weeks after purchase. I found the MP AND the SP to be absolutely terrible in terms of control, gameplay and graphics.

And by all means, tell me what games do what COD4 did but better because I will seek those games out.

I didn't mean that COD4 was a bad game, but I think it benefited by being the only good FPS out at the time.

As to what other games did things better, I'd say off hand Unreal Tournament for speed, Battlefield 2 (and it's mods) for realism/modern combat style, and HALO for out and out fun.

Seriously, I think COD4 is almost unmatched in its singleplayer story, at least for an FPS, it's just that the multiplayer wasn't anything new.

That's why I brought up Bad Company. Lots about its gameplay is new for consoles. As for graphics, I'd say that it is similar to COD4, and gameplay is lightyears beyond it just because of the vehicles and destruction.

I kind of agree about the controls, but that's because I want a control-mapping function, which COD4 had and BF:BC didn't.

8.3 - What
Bad Company is better than COD4? You must be smokin crack dude. Let me guess the new star wars movies are better than the originals? X men 3 was the best of the series? You must own every WWE movie. I'll bet.

I mean really the fact that you can only go to level 25 in bad company which at most takes about a week? where is the replay ability, where is the replay cam, or perks, and why must the game insist on having a tiny red dot above the heads of enemies so that you can't tell who the hell to kill till it is too late.

But like you said you must be the only person on the planet that thinks CoD4 multi-player was boring.

Right. Because repeating the same levels 8 times, on maps one tenth the size of Bad Company's, with no vehicles, with "perks" that just unbalance the game, and replay cams that make it stupidly easy to find snipers who are supposed to be hard to find is SO much better.

Bad Company requires tactics, or at least teamwork, while COD4 requires running around until time runs out.

I play multiplayer because teamwork is more fun with real people, not because I want to virtually beat the crap out of foul-mouthed teenagers. That's why I can see COD5 being better, and that's why Bad Company IS better.

9 - Co-op is cool
But with R2 and Bioshock coming out i`ll go for those instead. I also have Far Cry 2 and Mirror`s Edge on my maybe list, so i don`t think i`ll go for COD5, as i have COD4 already.

I have no doubt it will sell well because of the COD-name though.

Far cry 2 and Resistance 2 back to back for me. And I'll probably throw little big planet in as well. Man that's going to be a lot of money in two months

That's a controversial statement if ever I saw one.
I'm secretly hopeful about COD5 though, I thought COD3 was a rather fine game considering it was developed in less than a year. I mean 8 months, that's just astonishing in this generation!

11 - I really don't care what they say
I doubt CoD5 will be OMFGAMAZING, my friends dads friend (yes I know how that sounds...) went to Leipzig this year, and said that he kept shooting his own teammates because they look the same as the Japanese, I hope that doesn't stay in the final game... O_O

12 - Yeah
8 months for that title was a feat. You gotta let haters hate though. Also Infinity Ward did such a great job, I'm pretty sure that Activision knowing how much they need this franchise to be top notch on the sales tower. Communication between the two development houses on the title was paramount. Only makes sense. Looking forward to this game. If this game nails it like COD4, then "Killzone 2" or any other FPS coming out in the next 10 months is going to be in the fire. This is the one to beat...

Be a gamer...Not a hater

the formula is already there for CoD4. All they have to do is stick to it and make some good additions and they should be set. There is no excuse for this game to not be good.

Sweet would be nice to add a Co-Op to a WWII game, and be sweeter if they added it to COD 4...

But i am surprised how the game graphics look, they look really good, from when i first saw the early ones i wasnt too impressed but now i am interested..

18 - CoD: WaW faces some stiff competition...
But it will use the same engine and MP system as CoD4. If Treyarch don't mess things up to badly it will probably be a good FPS.

I won't buy it on day one, but I will keep an eye on it...
