Reliving the Dream: The Launch and History

It was 1999 and people were smacktab in the middle of the Attitude Era of wrestling. On the very same day the Dreamcast launched, WWE launched it's Smackdown product, with a special on UPN. Like Smackdown did to the WWF / WWE world, the Dreamcast disrupted gaming's cliches and constants. Think of it, like the Nintendo Wii of the late 90's Early 2K era. The Dreamcast had one of the best launches in video game history.

The Dreamcast was and still is one of the greatest consoles of all time. It was a fighting game and shmup gamers paradise. It was a sad day in the industry when Sega dropped out of the hardware business.

Skies of Arcadia was a great RPG. I am still waiting for a sequel to Shenmue. Sadly. it will most likely never happen. :(

So true. For instance Shenmue 1/2, and Power Stone. Two franchises SEGA NEEDS to resurrect. I still play Dreamcast to this day, and even today some of these games are above and beyond anything out.

Man, i loved my dreamcast so much at the time. Its still my favourite console. I still hold a soft spot for it, like an old girlfriend you realise you still have feelings for when you bump into her once in a blue moon.

3 - great time in gaming history
it was a part of the greatest summer of my life. nothing will ever come close to 1999. i moved from florida to california that summer. i made friends, met a new girl, and was 14. im 23 now, wishing i was as free as i was then. and still knew the people i did.

and wishing that the dream never ended...

4 - It's thinking!!!
Yeah that was probably the best time in gaming history for me. I was blown away by the dreamcast, it actually got me back into playing video games. I still play mine here and there. Might have to pull out fighting vipers 2 and rainbow cotton 3 for the dreamcast.

5 - The funny thing is,
The Dreamcast still looks good close to a decade later. It's sad that the hardware died so young, but the killer is how Sega has eroded so much afterwards. Sega still has very talented people left, but the teams are just a shadow of what they used to be.

For what it's worth, my Dreamcast is still hooked up to my tv and gets regular use.

7 - Its too bad they bowed out
This is why I still hate Sony. Microsoft needs to bury these guys as a pay back.

Get over it. Microsoft isn't going to bury Sony. It's hard to argue Sony's dominance in the video game industry. The only people capable of burying Sony is Sony themselves.

9 - Microsoft..
Microsoft will never win.. EVER.. If this price drop doesn't help nothing will. People know what they did with the original xbox.. Forced people to upgrade by not releasing games for the system any longer. Sony never did that ever. People want stuff that is future proof. Sony finally is getting into the swing of things and that momentum will never stop.
