Super-Sizing your PS3 – "It's a piece of piss!"- Gameplayer Guide

We recently saw a 'deal' from EB Games offering a shiny new 80GB PS3 if you give them your old PS3, PLUS four PS3 games AND $199 for the privilege. Hello complete and utter rip off!!!

So, flick EB the bird, follow this simple guide and you can absolutely super-size your hard drive – to much greater capacity than a still paltry 80GB – for less than the price of a new game!

1.1 - Agreed!
That deal makes it seem like EB games thinks the Ps3 is worthless... When in fact it is has way more value than that!

Crap deal! People don't fall for this trick!

Agree with ya on that one, Amazon is a great place to find a HDD, got me a 120gb Toshiba for 40bucks to replace my 40gb, got it super quick, and super easy install.

I love Sony, now keep the games comin

I wonder how many poor fools actually went with this "deal".
I'm surprised that they didn't ask for your soul as well.

feel sorry for anyone dumb enough or too lazy to swipe out there HDD for a bigger one. If you are smart enough to be able to read your user manual then you too can do this. But alas there are the misinformed out there.

F*ck Lamestop for this BS. I just got a 320GB for $110.00 and put it in my 60GB. Sony should say something about this to them. And sadly this crap is allowed only in the U.S.

I agree it is really ridiculous, but then again.. Some lady in Singapore bought a PSP for 1000 dollars so I'd say people here are not the only gullible ones.

If you think about it, there isn't a single good point to this deal, at all.
Either your trading in a very valuable BC ps3 with more features and getting an inferior model for $200 + 4 games.
Or if you have a 40GB your paying $200 and 4 games for an 80GB HDD(320GB are less than $200)

6.1 - This is Australia
Just a note that this 'deal' is from EB Games in Australia.

What's even more alarming is this 'deal' is if you trade a 60GB PS3 - trade a 40GB and you have to pay $249 and surrender four games!

Damn it's like they're taking the piss.

Flumpf.

Damn Gamestop is really shameless. Oh well good thing my 60 GB Ps3 already has a 320 gigs!! hahaha

*flips bird*

Really though sometimes gamestop does have decent deals. I reacently used a coupon to get 25% off used games and got another 10% off with my gamestop card. Limit three games so I got Indigo Prophecy (ps2) for $8, Pga tour 08 for like $15 and Madden 09 for $35!!!

9 - i work at Gspot
a kid came in a week ago and traded in his 40gb for an 80gb just for the extra memory and the DS3?! I told em how to upgrade his HD and even showed him the "blue screw" when i was testing his 40gb. I even told em he could go to CircuitCity right now and buy a 250gb WD scorpio for $100 and just use the backup and restore feature that all mighty PS3's have to make the whole transition easy and flawless. He still traded it in?! He would feel like a retard after seeing this promo, but 4 PS3 games and $200 too! Insane! wanna pre order something? ;)

Yeah, they really do mess people up sometimes.

You know that trade 2 games (from a list), get a new game for $20 deal we have going on? I tested it out. Only about 3 or 4 games on the WHOLE LIST would be saving you money..

10 - well
For someone with a 20 gig...

- No Wifi
- No Memory card reader
- Small HDD

...I mean, seriously.

I won't do it due to backwards compatibility and the fact that it's still (barely) a rip-off. That's as close as I can come to backing those jerks at EB and Gamestop up though.

I know...I work there.

You don't have to tell me we take customers for morons!

That's why I'm there though...to make sure they know what they're getting and know what's good!

This is for any Gamestop employee that's ever sold the Wii Sports add-on packs with baseball bats, golf clubs, and tennis rackets...

SCREW YOU!!!

12 - Those damn screws
I upgraded my 60GB HDD for a 250GB HDD which i brought for £40-£50 brand new off ebay. I think they welded my screws and ended up rounded the heads on all 5 screws! Dont worry if this happens though, you can buy a cheap tool called a screw extractor from a DIY shop (I'm from the UK but I'm sure there are similar in other countries) within minutes I had them out and my nice new HDD in.

the only way this might be a 'deal' is if u bought a 20 gig in the first place, but most ppl already changed their hard drive by now

I think that's kind of the point to the article. It isn't hard at all, people just freak about touching the innards of their expensive electronics, even though it's no harder than changing an NES cartridge. :)

Its soooo weird because i was at my local eb the other day and commented this same thing to my fiancee my exact words where "why would anyone swap there backwards compatible 4 usb slot 60 gig launch ps3 with 4 games and pay an extra $200 for an 80 gig ps3 with nothing when all you have to do is upgrade ur ps3 with a 120 gig harddrive or bigger for less than the $200 they want you to pay extra" I swear if there is anyone that has actually done this they are too dumb to own a ps3 and how on earth did they get the money to buy one in the first place they would obviously have a hard enough time remembering to breath let alone work to earn the money

19 - QUESTION?
Please someone help, I have a question. If I change my 60G for something higher, can I savor the 60G somehow? Maybe case it someway and still use it, maybe like a external HDD?

Yea, you can transfer your current data to an external HDD. I think it will have to have a FAT32 partition to do it. Fairly easy to do it. Pretty sure it is all spelled out in the online instruction PS3 guide.
