Yes, but at least through the PSN, gaming online with my buds is free too. Sure you have to pay for digital downloads but the core of the PSN, gaming, IS FREE!

Yes, you must pay for products, duh. The SERVICES are what are free, which is what this is about.

It's what makes services like 'Life with Playstation' and 'Home' that much more awesome...

3.1 - hell,
i couldn't have imagined this coming out of SONY's mouth a few years back.

for an evil, gigantic corporation to say something like this is surprising.

Sony wants our money, but at least they'll be fair in how they get it, instead of stiffing us with overpriced peripheral's and extras.

i've gotten some amazing use out of my PS3 so far, and when i think that a lot of the features i've been enjoying over the past 18 months since i bought my PS3 have been free, i just can't complain. especially since it's getting BETTER with each firmware update.

4 - I think most people who aren't fanboys would have to admit Sony
has been very consumer friendly with the PS3. Besides the forced blu-ray drive which many will have to admit is beginning to look like a good idea in hindsight. I mean they are losing out on a lot of money here folks. They get no money from people who upgrade their hard drives. Unlike MS who buys them wholesale, slaps it in an enclosure and charges 2x to 3x the going rate. They get no money from memory cards, charge and play kits and they let people use their PS2 cables for the ps3. Plus they are letting people share the majority of PSN games with friends and family. Hopefully consumers eventually reward them for their efforts.

I think that might be the single most under rated thing about PSN is the game sharing. Me and 3 of my buddies have formed a little group where we all share the same account for buying stuff from PSN. When we buy it everyone else in the group gets to download it and play it on their primary account. It's pretty nifty and i say severely under rated. I pretty much love almost everything about PSN.

Also i don't know if you guys heard yet but PSN Cards are coming to BlockBuster, RiteAid and 7/11. Link below:

i agree, i cant believe people still think that Blu-ray was forced in the PS3. I mean the games look great on it and current developers are liking the extra space.

PS3 is the cheapest blueray player right now and as the blueray format has won over the dvd9, your almost paying 399$ to yourself in the future for buying a PS3 now.

That doesn't make sense... But still you get your moneys worth ten times around!

You decide to delay everything, especially in Europe.

I don't know about you but I would much rather play games and have services that are working correctly and have been tested than having abunch of shovelware that breaks down on you post release and won't have a fix coming because the developers gets upset and thinks "we have done our job screw you".

The only thing that psn is missing is more user friendly communication. Im sick of typing msg's we need voice chat...

Delays are only bad if you're an impatient brat. WipEout HD was delayed a few months - "SCREW YOU SONY, DELAYIN' MAH GAMES!!!!"

Well, that game is getting what, 8 reverse tracks, 4 new ships, 2 alternate HUDS, split screen, and trophies because of it?

Killzone 2 was delayed. Well, it gets 5 months of polish while we play tons of other shooters, no biggy.

GT5 was delayed. Well, they're doing so because they're working on a **** ton of upgrades for GT5:P, to please the current consumers.

Unlike other games like Alan Wake which get delayed for technical reasons. I'm not trying to single out PC / 360 with choosing Alan Wake as an example, it's just that I'm anxious to play that game, so it came to mind first.

6 - Anyone who owns a ps3 will tell u that free is always a great thing especially when playing exclusive ps3 titles, u cant beat dedicated servers...
As much as people try an argue that PSN doesnt have all the great features of xbox live, one thing for sure though is playing online multiplayer is the main reason I love about PSN because u dont have to pay to do so, and even though there aint as many people with mics I still make a whole bunch of friends that are as skilled as any xbox live friend I have on my list. In the end aslong as I can play with friends online for free, u cant beat that. Only fanboys who havent expirienced being on PSN will say PSN is a joke when in reality we are actually getting great service for what we payed for. I am a happy customer and that is all that counts.

PSN does have its pitfalls especially the updates (why do they take longer on psn than live when there for the same game?) but its still a good service. I like the dedi servers the best :D

SL1M DADDY - 488 days 14 hours ago
7.1 - Take longer?
Come on, a few more seconds of time is not worth the price of admission for Live. Live costs, the PSN is free. I'll be willing to wait a second or two longer for an update, especially if it means I get my online experience for free with the PSN.

One quick question though... What about the week or two long downtime over the holidays MS experienced with Live last year? Would that make up for a few download minutes on the PSN? I have yet to experience the PSN being down for more than a few hours for maintenance but with Live, last Christmas, I was unable to get on for over a week.

Pros and cons I guess...

7.2 - longer dl
i'm guessing that the ps version and 360 version are coded differently, so in theory, the patch you download on xbl is diff size, diff code, etc

If they would finish work on what they start before starting more things they may stop or slow down all the DELAYS.Finish what you got instead of promising 3-4 things if you cant deliver on time.

I was a Live Gold member since day 1, no longer...
Everytime I log into Live and with a MP game and it says my membership must be updated..I LMAO...having to pay money to play a game online, BUT of course you dont have to pay to be able to buy stuff from Live.
Those who defend paying for Live....I just dont get it...

Paying $50 a year for cross-game invites and private voice chat seems like all it is to me when it comes to advantages of LIVE. No thanks, I'll spend that cash on a game or something instead.

I have both systems. Sure I pay 50.00 a year for LIVE.I have been give FREE FULL TV EPISODE DOWNLOADS, free FULL MOVIE RENTALS, FREE Full ARCADE GAME DOWNLOADS. So have all LIVE members. PLus it is so much more enjoyable than PSN. Until Sony makes it as good as LIVE there is no way I will spend any time more time online with my ps3. When they do then I will use it more.
