They didn't say Sony was the epic fail. But rather the era or time when they first showed up. Meaning, people didn't believe the Sony console would be successful compared to the likes of Sega or Nintendo at the time.

And obviously the PS1 and the PS2 ended up dominating the gaming world.
Of course today everything is different.

That'd be nice considering im a Sega console fan.

But they'd truely need to have something that sets itself apart from the Wii, 360, and PS3. In which I cant seem to comprehend what that would be right now.

I wouldn't say that the E3 2005 price announcement of the PS3 was a Epic Fail. 13-14 million PS3's have been sold so far in about a year and a half and many of those PS3's sold at the $499 and $599 price point.

$599 for a 60GB PS3 at launch was all that bad to me considering all you were getting for the price back then and if the PS4 came out at $599, I would buy it on day one.

If Sony had sold the console at release for the rates they are currently selling it then the disparagingly large gap between them and Nintendo would not be so bad. Its not that about 13 million sales is a bad thing, its that they could, at this point in the PS3's lifetime, be much stronger in the console race had the pricing been more competitive. I say Nintendo b/c Japan is an important market for Sony and currently they are getting dominated there in hardware and, more importantly, software sales. Not going to mention MS or other regions b/c they share the same trend.

Honestly, the pricing is a big factor for many people and creates a wall that is much more easily scaled through other systems.
