beeing in the gamesindustry as an artist myself i havent met ONE coder sofar that had so few knowledge about rendering and engines like yourself.

ue3 engine is overused yes,

is it outdated technically ?
NO (it had a pretty sweet update and now offers nearly every shader effects to date, they added even more, lighting, softbodys, destructables, fluids, globalillu, etc.)

is it an performant ?
YES (tons of shaders and postpro effects put to very good use and mainly a solid fluid fps)

is it low poly ? NO (fenix has around 15k polys wich is a highpoly ingame char in my book) and the environments are also far from beeing lowpoly.

and stop bashing normal maps or trying to tell us its doom3 technics and outdatet, every major engine uses normal maps to light and desiplay details that would ahve been totally unnecesarry to model like wrinkles clothfolds, screws and muscles, veines etc.)

i'm still trying to figure out why people are saying this game looks bad?

when the first one came out it set the bar for visuals and wasn't touched by any games on either system for a long time so you can really expect a sequel in the same generation to be leaps and bounds better?

I see the point with unreal engine games looking the same, reason being its basically a plug and play engine and devs are lazy and don't try to be innovate with it, epic is a victim of their own success and can't be faulted for that

why does every ue3 game comes out looking like gears? because gears launched ue3 and you don't mess with something that isn't broke so devs take the easy road and end up coppin character model styles and gameplay mechanics

for example, 50 cent blood on the sand is basically a reskinned gears of war

but on the other hand the engine is extremely versatile, look at things like TNA impact, MKvsDC, and the wheelman...all using ue3 in different capacities

people aren't licensing engines like crytek and id tech because they are expensive and hard to use, ue3 on the other hand pays for itself by cutting dev cycles and elimating extensive recoding
hate on it all you wish but it isn't going anywhere, and unreal engine 4 will be ready within a couple years and it'll be just as popular if not more so

gears 2 clearly looks better than the first, better lighting, better character detail (just look at Raam when hes firing around the corner at the beginning), more environmental detail, environments that react to whats going on, such as wood breaking, concrete chipping, and sandbags leaking their contents out when you shoot them.

beyond the fact that the game looks good, it also looks fun as hell so you'll see me in line at midnight

at least epic is improving their product vastly, especially in the gameplay area with new elements, new gametypes, vastly improved multiplayer interface and function and we aren't getting a cash grab like halo 3 where the devs just basically went on cruise control

Thats not actually true mate. Yesterday - full res screenshots were posted that could have come directly from these vids (except full res and no compression) - http://n4g.com/NewsCom-1663...
The overwhelming replies suggested that the screenshots were fugly. Not all from PS3 trolls, but from well known 360 fans on this site like 'thenickel', 'Jenzo'.

Persoanlly I think it looks great, and I didn't see a problem with the screeshots either and posted as much. I actually got accused of being a 360 fanboy, whic was a first for me, as they most often call me a PS3 fanboy! Fact is I'm a gamer and I love games no matter where I find em!

There are better looking games out there now than the UT3 engine based games, thats true. But this is still a little better looking than the first title, and promises to be a fun game, even if its not a technology showcase, so any real gamer will enjoy.

The only people who will be dissapointed are people who bought into marketting hype, or somehow think they were going to get photorealism, or expected the UT3 engine to become the technoligical tour-de-force of the 360. Its not, but it looks fine anyway, and anyone who enjoyed the first game and wants some more is sure to have a blast despite the complaints of the armchair pundits!

If I still had my X360 I would of course be getting this, mostly because all those finishing moves will be a lot of fun when playing with friends... the first Gears is still the best looking game on the X360..why people want Gears 2 to look extremely better?...I'd understand that if there were already a bunch of games on the X360 that make GeoW look outdated but there aren't so...that it looks a little better is good enough IMHO.

I'm happy with my PS3 but it doesn't mean that one has to bash X360 games to feel even better, if we didn't have AAA games coming to our console I'd understand that but that's not the case. just enjoy the games!

Don't really see enough gameplay difference to justify a sequel. More like an expansion pack. Of course you can't really do that on consoles. The annoying thing is that all the people playing online will switch over so if you want to play Gears online at all you'll probably have to shill out for the sequel. I cba myself. Not that good a game any more and I'll have plenty of other games keeping me busy when this releases.

at most you would ever see is maybe 6 otherwise is just turns into every other shooter

gears is one of the few shooters that actually makes you think, especially without respawning because 1 life is all you got so you have to out smart the other guys with your team

if you up it to 16-32 players you will lose that and you end up with a 3rd person unreal tournament

Different games have different Multiplayer "goals". GoW is a squad based game. Other games have massive numbers, Halo 3 had the right number, set in the right-sized map. Its about game-play goals, not simply "we gots da most!1!"

Huxley is going to be 120 people Multiplayer. Should GoW try for 121?

looks good a bit improved and more fast paced, graphics are defintaly a set up BUT... not jaw droping or ground breaking in all honesty it can compare with MGS4 and uncharted even more so when i saw those screens in the article here up ahead. finishing moves are cool, i really like the way they introduce the map with the camera moving i thought that was kind of a nice touch other than that everything looks the same to me. oh yeah they die faster to which is an improvment, shooting ppl in GEOW 1 was like trying to blow up a tank with one man equiped with only a gun and a greanade, and only Snake can do that... peace!

Yeah, the thing I disliked most about the first game is it felt like anything other than shotguns or power weapons had no punch to them. At least you can stop a shotgun rush now with a hail of bullets. That's probably my favorite improvement so far.

looks amazing (watch the hd vid on XBL if you think its same graphics as the first) and i will definately be getting it on release day, and ill probably be playing it online a year after that. I still play the first a lot.

I just hope the campaign gives me more gameplay than a weeks worth. I played through the last one on hardcore and insane with my mate within a week and then just moved onto multiplayer

16 - Graphical fidelity was expected (looks nearly identical to gears 1)

But the gameplay does seem faster paced, and I love the fluidity of that camera. Best in-game camera, hands down! Especially when it glides between different areas of the multiplayer maps. I just wish the character models would react to enemy fire. Environmental interactivity does seem a bit non-existant as well. It was shown in the GDC video, so it's kind of odd to not see it now. Maybe it's only in campaign mode?

the environment interaction is there its just not showcased in these videos, there is another video on game trailers somewhere where they show more in depth playing of the matches and you see things like wood breaking and concrete fragmenting from torque bows and grenades as well as the environment hazards like the switchable lazers and gun turrets on the security map

this video shows that the levels look exactly the same as the firs gears and the graphics look the same. those finishing moves u probably cant even do like the one at the end when will u have time to do that in war? the only thing new is the chainsaw battles which probably begin and end the same way but for either character. gamertag:kritikos8

The game's horribly generic.

I don't see anything innovative about it, except the finishing moves, which were kind of cool because of the blood splatter effects. Other than that, it doesn't impress me enough to buy it.
