Rumor: Dark Cloud 3 being developed for PS3 exclusively

According to Italian Playstation magazine PSMania, Level 5 who are currently working on White Knight Chronicles which is due out later this year are rumored to also be working on Dark Cloud 3 which will release exclusively on the Playstation 3 in 2009.

The translated article states

"One of our infiltrates, has revealed that Level 5 is working on a new Dark Cloud exclusively for the PlayStation 3. This title will come out in March of 2009, and will be developed using a new open-technology, the Japanese style "Kumo Engine"

interesting...so how can one say that ps3 is getting shafted with the rpgs, if the console is getting both final fantasys, white knight chronicles and now Dark Cloud 3. oh...erm, doesn't sony own the ip or something?

It's the equivalent of saying Gears of War will never come to the PS3 because MS owns the IP and publishing rights. I guess this is not really news other than to inform us that Dark Cloud 3 is in the works.

I agree the RPGs coming for PS3 just seem more fun and more interesting. The PS3 RPGs all seem to be doing something different or atleast something hasn't been done to death. Brand love aside i liked Dark Cloud because of city creator and the potential that can be done on the PS3 is huge. White Knight Story is one of the few games that blew me away a year ago when it was first shown at TGS. The way the characters moved i've never seen in a video game before. And FFXIII is obviously going to be good because that is the definitive next iteration of FF.

But It's intent was to copy Zelda from the start.
I remember Sony saying it was a "Zelda-killer".
When Wind Waker went Celshaded, it was also notable that Dark Cloud 2 decidedly went Celshaded as well.

I would HOPE to high hell that Dark Cloud 3 would return to the original Dark Cloud's gameplay and Art style.

Same here! I LOOOOOVE Dark Cloud and even it was a "random dungeon rpg" I played it for hundred of hours and loved EVERY moment of it! I thougt it had a very coozy feeling to it! Damn I am excited now!!!

Level 5 usually does DS and PS2 games and they are working on a future PS3 game, White Knight Chronicles, which is an RPG and looks very promising.

With the superb sales of MGS4 and PS3 hardware more AAA Japanese developers will give the PS3 a chance and I welcome Dark Cloud 3 anytime. Dark Cloud 2 is one of my favorite PS2 games.

I only had the first one, but it was an Action RPG. It was very like 3D Zelda games, such as the combat and dungeons, but the whole goal involved collecting items to "rebuild" the overworld - houses, fences, and so on.

It was a pretty cool game.

Loved dark cloud 2 and still play it on occasion. Would like to see a more open world though, instead of all the narrow path dungeons and forests. Add some co-op to it (just my wish list) and it's heaven. Speaking of great PS2 games I'm looking for, Bring on Champions of Norrath: Rise of the Ogres or some crazy #### like that.

March 2009? That's sound kinda fishing... I mean White Knights Chronicles its not finish yet and DC3 its "supposed" to be release next year it's hard to believe unless the game receive an announcement on this year E3 or the Tokyo Game Show this year it HARDLY IMPOSSIBLE. This is really great news. Plus on a side note I can't believe Gamesblow was right. But really was it that hard to think Sony would not make a new one the past two were great. So I do not think that it would be that hard to guess Sony would make a new one. But if Gamesblow is right and there is to be a new Legend of Dragoon then I will be impressed. Again great news and I can't wait for White Knight and now this too.

30 - Dark Cloud 3 Bring it on.

My favrote thing about Dark cloud 1 and 2 was the weapon builder i spent so much time making sure i allways had weapon poweder to them from brakeing and i would work so hard for my weapons to gain exp to lv them up and to evole useing items to make them stronger and add elements to them. I hope they expand on that in DC3.
