Old Favorites Struggle To Recreate Past Success

Just like almost every mighty empire in history, games have had their own share of mighty franchises rise to great heights, only to slowly see their legacy fade and crumble away. For various and sometimes numerous reasons, some of our old time favorites such as Sonic The Hedgehog, Spryo The Dragon and Crash Bandicoot popularities have all seen a serious decline over the course of the past few years.

All of these once proud titles have touched most of hearts at one time or another, proving that good old fashion craftsmanship is what truly determines whether a game will ultimately be successful, more so than the actual content put inside of it. After all, a cutesy game like Spryo The Dragon wasn't supposed to appeal to the hardcore gamer crowd. Yet, there we all were running around in circles trying to make a perfect jump from this ledge to that ledge in an attempt to collect every gem on the stage.

1.1 - I agree...
It's sad, I really wish they'd take all of these games and "return to their roots". Some games just aren't innovation, and fancy new features. Old fashioned, solid gameplay mechanics are what these series need to stay popular. No one became a crash fan for open-world gameplay, it's (basically) 2d gameplay that made the series so great.

Crash and Spyro are no longer in hands of Naughty Dog and Insomniac so both are gonna keep being mediocre.

Sonic Unleashed should look better but after so many disappointents, it's hard to keep faith.
