5 Japanese RPGs That Deserve a Sequel

The Angry Pixel writes: "Japanese Role Playing Games or JRPGs represent games developed with specific role-playing elements. Gigantic boss battles, a cast of anime-style characters, lush 3D worlds and an immersive story are a staple of almost every JRPG. Sure, Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest dominate the genre with their off-shoots and remakes, but what about the awesome one-shots? These games didn't have the biggest budgets or the greatest backings, but their fan bases remain some of the most dedicated in gaming today. Join us as we take a look at those JRPG gems that deserve a sequel, if not a thunderous conclusion for their plots and casts."

1 - Chrono Series
FTW! We want Chrono Trigger Remake or Chrono something!

Chrono Cross was great too!

Chrono Trigger is best RPG ever and topples Zelda: OoT

Chrono Cross was better than they made it sound, even if it wasn't a real sequel. It was a continuation of a graphic novel on the SNES in Japan called Radical Dreamers. It had nothing to do with the original game. Hell, In enjoyed CC more than I enjoyed Chrono Trigger.

I look at that picture and see Luna. SSSC was a great game, and one that I'll always remeber for how regal the box set was. 4 discs, a cloth map, hard bound booklet and nice overall box art layout.

Agree with all and add Xenogears, Vagrant Story, Panzer Dragoon Saga, and a new CONSOLE Parasite Eve to the list.

That was a lame list.
I agree on the chrono-series though

Xenogears sequel
Bof 6
A next-gen Shin Megami Tensei
A proper sequel to the Seiken Densetsu/Secret of mana-franchise with awesome co-op, don't give me that Dawn of Mana-crap.

But most of all:
Grandia 4, made with an ff-sized budget.

Isn't there a Skies of Arcadia 2 currently in development?

And seriously, what about a new Phantasy Star? Its only been... 13 years, and there are some of us who are still waiting for a Phantasy Star 5.

I'd also love to see some new Baldurs Gate, Suikoden, or Breath of Fire games, although none of them are likely.

well baldur isnt a jrpg , however awesome it is .
Suikoden is quite likely actually .. it survived a lukewarm reception for III , despite it being a decent and possibly great in some area game ... it survived an horrible Suikoden IV ... and rose from its ashes with a good suikoden V going back to the basics .

i'm worried about breath of Fire though . I'd go down for any of the two existing styles of BOF game . The lastone was unique , needed polish but was quite good ... and breath of fire 4 was simply great .

I dont see whats skies of arcadia is doing here .
For starters it was a good experience but hardly one of the best , it is memorable because of the universe and whole idea of flying pirates ships fights , but not so much because of a particularly great story , gameplay and realisation . But most of all its already getting a sequel so already disqualified imo for such list .

I also disagree about lunar . It was like many others jrpg a pretty good game , but nothing stellar in any particular area . It was a good sandwiches filled with good stuffing , but nothing from a 4 stars restaurant .

I'd replace both with a xenogears game (or saga) . Xenogears was arguably one of the best rpgs of the psx or ever . Sure it already got 3 "spiritual" sequels (or rather prequels) , but those are either hated or appreciated , even loved , but not often as beloved as Xenogears .
Besides those 3 games were pretty much the same big story sliced in parts , with changes at each episodes .
My stomach is hungry for yet another go at the xeno universe rich of millenaries of backstory , and possibilities for simply a xenogears sequel .

Other solid names would be Final fantasy tactics and Shining Force . Sega basically ruined an already working formula than only needed next gen input and realisation .
As for final tactics (or even tactics ogre if you prefer) , while it got 2 gba/ds titles , those fall pretty short compared to what made the game so interesting for starter ... an epic tale of warfare and political struggles , full of twists and betrayals .
