KZ2 vs Gears ? I lol'ed. Killzone 2 will have the upper hand here because its still in development and by the time Gears 2 launches, it will still be worked on.

Gears looks great but the wow visuals it had with its first debut is not there this time around. With that said, it still looks pretty good. Can't reinvent the wheel everytime.

EDIT: Man, I can't believe they used that gameplay video of KZ2 when there are better ones.

Of course KillZone has the better Graphics! Anybody outside of a hardcore Xbox fan will admit that.

But gameplay wise, it is Gears hands down. That is why it the original was Game of the Year. Gears is Something truly Special!

I guess this is where we all are supposed to pretend this is some sort of neck and neck race between the PS3 and the 360 to prove how reasonable we all are.

Let's drop the BS and be honest.

Killzone 2 is running with in game graphics and gameplay that was almost universally proclaimed was not going to be possible until the PS4. Side by side comparisons with the original 05 E3 trailer show Killzone 2 currently looks even better in many areas especially the staggeringly good player's gun modeling, material, and lighting.

Killzone 2 has so far shown gigantic levels with insane amounts of stuff going on, unprecedented animation quality and detail, environment destructibility of amazing scope and detail, and finally the single greatest lighting model ever in video game. No other console video game has the same type of deferred renderer lighting engine Guerilla Games have written on the PS3.

Gears of War is just another Doom 3 era 'shiny normal maps everywhere' engine where the gameplay essentially is all down tiny confined corridors or constrained spaces to limit the amount of stuff on the screen. The draw distances are absurdly short with everything outside the immediate foreground blurred out.

The UE3 engine is still based on the Doom 3 gimmick of faking geometry detail with material level effects. So you end up with that same boxy looking characters that everyone complains about when they see yet another UE3 game's characters because they are so low poly.

Due to the silly 10 megs of edram design of the 360, there will never be a game that can run an engine like Killzone 2's due to the fact that it requires way more render buffers than can fit at one time. The 360 has trouble enough just getting decent AA for framebuffers larger than 480p.

It is hilarious to hear 360 fans tying to rip on Killzone 2's textures - in other words everything in Killzone 2 isn't cover in 'bumpy shiny normal maps'.

Thank god.

I have no words, Killzone 2 is a completely by the books shooter with a glossy edge.

Same thing with the first Killzone, which was garbage! If you look at the hype of the first one, it followed the same trail as this sequel is.

For the record: the graphics in Killzone 2 are insanely good, but the AI looks absolutely retarded and mindless, and the level design isn't anything to write home about.

This comparison is stupid. A cam feed vs a 720p video

I think people should stop judging guerilla so much on their past endeavors. Sure KZ1 wasn't so hot and neither was shell shock but none of those titles are receiving as much care as killzone 2. I just hope GG is into some innovation. I hope they plan to try some new things to make them stand out in the over crowded shooter market.

yeah its stupid. there is no reason to even argue over these 2 games.
both games look to be pure amazing. but dam guerilla stop delaying killzone2!!!! haha. but like sonarus keeps saying im just hoping there is something innovative in k2. because there are way to many fps which is making the genre hard to succeed in. but by graphics alone WHOA! to bad not til feb 09.
but gears2 looks to be full on WAR just hopefully they do more with that 100 locusts on screen thing. cuz its ok in that video but in the rest of the game if its just like 30 locusts but you dont have no real interaction with them then thats gonna kind of suck. but it should still be badass.
both games are gonna be epic. as mgs4 is. 29 days left. and ng2. freak man im gonna be broke.

1.10 - hmm
you cant compare a first person shooters graphics to a 3rd person shooter graphics, the way the model objects, props, and other stuff is obviously going to be different

for a first person shooter type game, obviously they are going to make the graphics much better because you see things more closely (ie your gun, and the environment) whereas when its 3rd person, you see things as a whole and wont need to put as much detail in objects as you would in a first person shooter game

why bother putting in as much detail in a gun for a 3rd person shooter game as you would in a first person shooter when you wont be close enough to see it, game designers would just be wasting memory that they could put to use else where

1.11 - KZ2 wins but.........
it's hard to compare a 1st person shooter with a 3rd person shooter. it would be better to compare Gears 2 with MGS4.

MSG4 would still kick the sh!t out of Gears but i think it would be a fairer comparison. this wasn't even close and thats with a bad KZ2 video.

originalgoatseguy you may be right by saying killzone2 looks better but not by much also you sound like you work for sony or something but got no idea how games are develop you can tell by your statements, they are stupid and make no sense. Lets just hope killzone2 gets release on 2009 and the game looks and plays as promised cause me as a gamer im tired of all the lies and bull $^%$ sony has come with dont u agree?? Just get this on your mind The ps3 aint as powerfull as sony said it would be, to me they are about the same wich is surprising cause the 360 came out a year earlier dont you think????? Just look at all the multiplatform games most look and play better on the 360 yea i know you might be saying how about killzone2?? well that game has been delay forever so who knows and by the way the first one sucked i dont got big hopes for the sequel.Instead i will be playing gta4 on my 360 in the mean time enjoy your bluray player and pray your game finally comes out........

Totally agree Killzone will be graphic wise superiour than Gears of war. You got to love the Duth people :)

Though there is a large difference in development time, with gears of war having a much smaller one, not expecting any delays.

it's KZ2 by a lot. Gears is not ugly, but with all the blurry effects and the greyness it just doesn't hold up to KZ2.

smell money being shoved into Gears Devs arses to rush this game, cause MSh!t smells like scared doo doo. I saw the Gears vid and thought "Hmmm, Gears 1.2 maybe, same Sh!t like the first". On the other hand, KZ2, even in a camcorder footage---->HELLO!!!, looks better and more exciting the Gears. Gears Devs should be ashame of themselves. I said this before... "Slow pace, STRONG FOUNDATION".

WEll his statements all sounded ok to me, i dont know how they didnt make sense to you, but the one thing you do not understand about the release dates is that M$ released the 360 for christmas, leaving the most famous bug of all, RRoD, Sony was correct in keeping theirs in development for another year to eliminate any crippling bugs, so right there that tells you M$ is only about money, not customer satisfaction, id rather wait for a year to get a better console than one that has been hastily pushed onto the market to get a buck(just like all the games they pushed out, look now, no games this year for the 360). so take your fanboy mind and go somewhere else

Killzone is a dead winner in this both games look great but ina wya GoW looks .. well.. the same

For him being so wrong as you say you certainly don't provide any evidence to the contrary. Exactly what in his post was incorrect? All you did was sound like a disgruntled MS employee. Tell us what in his post was not true. Back it up instead of just smearing Sony with nothing but opinions about lies.

Considering how good Gears (1) gameplay was, and how awful Killzone's (1) gameplay was, I think it's safe to say that unless Guerrilla pulls a miracle they'll fall into the same trap they did the first time:

Killzone (1):

+Great graphics
+Great models
+Great explosions

-Awful shooting mechanics
-Terrible A.I.
-Repetitive, useless levels.

(Look familiar?)

It will be good though...am sure. If anything, I know the AI will be superb seeing as how they have just hired a mastermind behind many successful games:

kinda like your posts. the first one sucks and sure enough, the rest suck just as much. i guess you forgot gears lack of story, poor level design, too many "on rails shooting" segments, boring weapons(except for the chainsaw!), multi-player glitches and very weak final level. oh, and even with the chainsaw- there was no strategy involved in using it. just attack and hope it hits.(that's good gameplay?) i could critique it even further if you'd like to continue this.

and with KZ2- i didn't think KZ1 was that bad. i love the story the KZ universe has going. but, it (KZ1) has no influence on quality(or lack thereof)of KZ2. clearly it looks much better than KZ1 or gears2.

Oh I get it, harass me because you're not secure enough with yourself to actually just voice your opinion.

Great, really mature.

Fact is, no matter how many problems Gears (1) had (and it did have very many), it wasn't nearly the level of garbage that Killzone (1) turned out to be after all that "Halo killer" BS hype that hid the fact that it was an underdeveloped game.

Sooooooooooooooooo there that is.

I guess my point is that I'm excited for Killzone 2 but I'm also being very cautious at the same time because the first was such a letdown in comparison to other games on the PS2 and the Xbox.
