ExtremeTech tests Vista versus XP in gaming performance and in synthetic tests showing that the performance difference is negligible pointing to poor drivers accounting for the drop in performance when using Vista in it's infancy.

nVidia and AMD drivers have finally matured.

At one point, nVidia's drivers were so bad, they were directly responsible for 33% of all Vista crashes. That's crazy.

However impressive these results are, it's like comparing a PS2 to a PS1, since when does the predecessor have the technical edge? I'm sorry, I'm running Vista Ultimate right now, next time Vista inevitably crashes I'm booting up with XP.
