Gold Buying In MMO's

Jayge at attentionallfriends.blogspot.com writes:
Today, I'm talking about gold buying. No, not the $1,000 per ounce commodity that commercials don't shut up about. I'm talking about WoW gold. Guild Wars gold. FFXI gold. Runescape gold. The kind you pay real money for. The fake kind.

To those of you familiar with the Massively Multiplayer Online scene, you should be aware of this process. For those of you who don't, it goes a little something like this:

Player feels a little down. Player decides "hey, lets get a shiny new sword!". Player isn't the wealthiest (insert any MMO) player. Player gets message from (insert Asian gold-farming company here). Player decides "hey, I've got 15 bucks! lets get some gold!". Player buys gold. Another one bites the dust.

1.1 - What?
How is he complaining?
When you can explain this to me, I won't consider you mentally challenged. Not that you care or anything.

All he is doing is basically talking about the problem from a neutral stance (and if you deny that this is a problem, slap yourself).

Seriously did you even read the article, or did you read the summary and go straight to commenting?

If you play EVE online you'll see this all too often. ISK (EVE currency) sellers spam the public rooms, send you ingame mail, then send you email. Funny thing is, the people who would likely consider buying the money (inexperienced) are the ones who'd end up blowing it and be broke again right afterwards.

3 - It is bad in WoW
The limiting trial accounts didn't help out at all it seems. I still get multiple PMs a day from gold sellers/power levelers. That and their spamming in major cities. Seriously if you buy gold gtfo.

I'll admit I have bought gold before, back in the days when I used to play WoW. The basic way I justified was actually quite simple. Gold farming is tedious, boring, and in no way fun for me. And back in the day it could take 10 hours to get 100 gold. Some could do it in a shorter amount some took longer but basically it took at least a day. However I could simply work at in a job for an two hours and have enough to buy 200 gold. It's cheating to be sure on my part, to hell if I'm going to send all that time on fake money.

Back then, I sold a ****load of in-game currency in a game for a hell of a lot money. I was lucky that I was probably the only one in the game on that special server. Long story short, that money allowed me to buy my PS3 at launch in Europe and I still had some left. I don't see a problem with selling the product of the time I spent.

6 - 4 THOES WHO DON'TUNDERSTAND THE PRINCIPALS I'LL GLADLY BREAK IT DOWN!
On Final Fantasy XI Online I used to be a lvl 75 Summoner,
59 WhiteMage, 42 BlueMage Server World Alexander. I for one Don't see nothing wrong with buying Gold for your character, if U got the Money Why Not? Some people Work 6 days a Week, so the Idea of Farming is Laughable, others who can't Afford buying gold, yet have all day to Farm, both makes sense! Some People want tight $hit on their characters, an don't have time to lvl up,farm, sell, farm, lvl up, farm ect.ect. That why they Buy Gold, buy gear an look for partys! I feel if your a hard worker Go ahead an Buy Gold, if U have plenty of time on your life by all means Go Farm! Don't get mad at people who have a life an hardly play Online games when they buy Gold, cause it isn't cheating!
