if you consider how much it costs to update your PC 500 - 600 bucks seems pretty fair especially considering what is going to be included with the ps4 in the future

another thing...people should be more concerned with how much games are gonna cost during that generation idk about every1 else but i'm not about to pay full price for an 80 dollar version of madden every year

Of *course* they are planning the next consoles. I think there is no way they can wait 10 years before it is released. The console life cycle has never been that long in the 30 years of home-console gaming, its not going to suddenly just stop advancing.

just because the life cycle is going to be 10 years doesn't mean it's going to stop advancing you have to look at the bigger picture here...when sony is saying 10 year life cycle they mean that the ps4 will come out at probably the 8th year of the ps3 and the ps3 will last for 2 more years and eventually stop producing and give way to the ps4, the ps4 will for sure be coming out after 2012...sony has to give time for the ps3 to win this generation, which it might if the wii slows down, i'm not even going to start with the xbox, its exclusive games list has diminished drastically especially compared to that of sony which is probably going to have 2008 2009 and 2010 be the year of the ps3

I do believe the PS3 can have a 10 year lifespan. The PS2 is almost at 10 years. They could release the PS4, and still support the PS3 for a few more years after the PS4 release.

You can never stop every game on every system from being terrible, however atleast the PlayStation brand hardware has always been value for money, like the PS4 when it comes out eventually whatever is included will be worth the price.

What you should be asking is - Is this system worth the price I am paying for it, If I cannot use it solely for games does it still have other benefits like Storage space & Media interactivity(photos/music/mov ies).
The PlayStation 3 has always been worth it's price as it has always mirrored the price of other Blu-ray players, As well as being the best value Blu-ray player (as it has a HDD & is updated regularly). I for one cannot see myself ever being disappointed with the next PS4 and what ever the price it will be worth it, In more ways then just playing games.

Sounds like you've been playing Lego Forza and Lego Halo.

Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Ratchet, Resistance, GT5P (except in the title screens) and Motorstorm dont have any jaggies, but then that why people like comparing 3rd party titles, not 1st party titles.

Thats why companies have to take risks and be innovative. We didnt know that having standard hard drives, HD, and blu ray were gonna be so important this generation but sony took the chance and put those things in and now we cant think of the PS3 existing without them. If they wait ten years and then make a console it will be outdated by the time they release it.

Whatever M$ bring out first, Sony will then comeout later with a better system, The main reason M$ has to hurry now with a new system is that they have are already reaching their limits in what they can do with the 360, the PS3 is already future proof (each console has a HDD & Blu-ray storage space) for many more years but, either M$ will bring out another 360 to equal the PS3 or just bring out the Xbox 3. If this happens I doubt the PS4 will be released due to M$ releasing a Xbox 3, atleast both M$ and Sony would then finally be eqaul in terms of hardware but once Sony brings out a PS4 I can just see the cycle happening over again. PS4 released then M$ decide Time for an Xbox 4 as the PS4 would better the Xbox 3 hardware. It's been M$ history they have never had a long lasting console or windows OS and I for one can never see a M$ console lasting for 10 years.

How do you know MS doesn't have a long term goal for their system? MS have still not even established themselves with any kind of super success in this buisness to just be throwing out consoles left and right. They 'had to' this time. But they'd be stupid to just make the 360 go only 1 year longer than the Xbox. It would piss people off royaly and would not actually put them in any kind of real lead either, just based on putting more pricy technology out there, which is a money pit you have to dig yourself out of.

I've got news for some of you without a brain. Microsoft is not pumping out some new RROD boxes in the next year and a half. 2011 or 12 would make more sense. But a continuous rush to market just to be 'first' over and over every few years, is suicide. Ask Sega.

People want a long term company they can trust. Enter, the Sony Playstation brand.

We did see what happened when M$ got a 1 year head start, it got outsold by the PS2 every year, and now it is getting outsold by the PS3. If M$ releases a new console in 2010, they will waste a lot of money and it will get killed by the PS3. I think people are getting sick of upgrading to a new console every 3-5 years.

Console these days to be viable because of the high price, either:

need to make them cheaper like the Wii has, but no one really wants a recycled console (except everyone who'se a non gamer so what do I know.)

or have longer life cycles to have the time to recoup their expenses, like Sony does.

M$'s barely 4-5 year life cycle followed by completely ditching their current machine and customers will insure they never make money in this business. There still not going to break even this gen, let alone come close to paying for R&D for next gen.

Sony might be excellent position for next gen because I dont believe they need to do anything really radical for PS4 and I've said this already a number of times. Everything they have in place now simply needs to have more of it. Cell is so advance, and so far away from being fully tapped out its not funny. Plus we all know how well they work in clusters. 5 Cell chips connected together can do way more work than 5 or probably even 10 Cell's working individually. And they will be so cheap buy then and so well refined. PS4 need only have a hive of Cell's for the CPU, the latest GPU working in sync as the RSX and Cell does now. A couple GB of RAM, a BluRay Drive which will have 100 or 200GB disc buy then and a standard PC Harddrive. Since Cell and BR are already here this time Sony could very well put out a PS4 thats got 10 times the power of a PS3 and it will cost them very little since the homeworks already been done.

Wow, I had no idea that the PS4 was planned so early, but it's just good to know.

And to the people above saying they hope it's not $500 bucks, shut up and stop being cheap. When the PS3 first came out, it was worth at least $800-$900 dollars for everything built in the console. I paid the full $599 price for my 60GB and I thought I got a good deal, and I would spend that much again for a game console anyday.

And Kaz is right because they don't even need to be mentioning the PS4 publicy because it would definantly confuse gamers and even make them not buy a PS3 because they think that a PS4 is just around the corner. The PS4 doesn't need to be released for at least 4-5 more years. The PS3 was built for the future and it will last for many years to come in the gaming industry.

Sony should play it the same way they have been doing things... Release the new console after the last has been out for six years. That worked for the PS1 - PS2, and PS2 - PS3.

Although I really think that Sony needs to keep the cost down on the PS4 at launch... $500 to $600 at launch nearly proved to be a fatal blunder. The PS3 didn't start to hit its stride until it hit $400.

All they really need to do is improve on the Cell architecture (like fix the slow read speed from the SPU local cache), include two or more Cell processors, at least 2GB of XDR RAM, an nVidia G92 chipset, and at least 512MB of video RAM. That would be nice since it would pretty much guarantee perfect PS3 backward compatibility... ;-)

I hope Sony dont try to play keep up, instead, let them release it. PS3 will hold its own. Sony will be virtual skipping the next gen according to M$'s timetable, but will have a years lead on the one after.

Because of power and price consoles need to be coming out slower, not faster, M$ just wants to keep jumping the gun and giving up a race when they see they wont win. Let them bring XB3 in 2010. PS4 in 2013, and the XB4 in 2015, if the shareholders still want to keep tipping money down a hole that is.

Haha with the way inflation is going we'd be lucky if it was that much with the ps4 though I think they'll strike a good balance between powerful hardware and affordability. They wont want to come out with a ridiculous price again. As for Microsoft releasing a new 360 so soon, I dont think so.

Releasing a console is a huge risk and endeavour. It takes a ridiculous amount of money to launch consoles. They wont be making money if they keep on releasing new consoles at that rate. And not making money defeats the purpose of being in the business.

more cell,more ram,more speed,bluray upgradeable.R&D work already done.sony will be ready like this gen.

microsoft is the one that has to decide what media they use.and,it's likely that they will follow what pc systems are doing.dual cores and quad cores and such.basically what sony has done on one chip.i'm thinking intel.next,their controller will defintely try to steal nintendo's thunder with a more wii friendly like remote as standard for 720 at launch.live will basically be just more of the same.just more.

the question will be if microsoft sells the system like this:

$99 console.but you have to sign on to xbox live for 2 years with a credit card(contract).and pay about $15 dollars a month($15x2yrs is $360).but ***free*** xbox live play.the system will be sold like a cellphone.cancel,get hit with cancellation fees.

or pay all up front at retail for $459.99 with everything included.

but we'll see soon enough what sony,nintendo and microsoft do next time.see 360 fans,i can be reasonable.
