Mature Games: Game Informer & Parents Television Council talk

Game Informer writes:
"As it was intended to, the press release from the Parents Television Council grabbed the attention of a few of us in the office, especially those who follow anything to do with games and politics. It's easy to forget – particularly with the constant barrage of glowing reviews of Grand Theft Auto IV – that a large population of people don't share our excitement about the title. Such as groups who are adamant about keeping the blockbuster title out of stores – or at the very least – out of the hands of youth.

Our interest was piqued enough by the over-the-top press release that we decided to set up an interview with Gavin McKiernan, the grassroots director of the Parents Television Council, to talk about Grand Theft Auto IV and the organization's goals as relate to video games and the nation's youth."

1 - Okay this is crap!
Okay, this is crap! Maybe people should take a more active role in what their children do, watch and play. For people that use games as an excuse for what they do or the crimes they commit, They where screwed up before they started playing games.

Oh well everyone is entitled to their opinion.

2 - To me...
...this sounds as though some consumer protection group just wants to sound like they actually care about the release of the game. The press release contains all of the buzz words associated with this kind of behavior. They are just saying what they know people want to hear while trying to sound as though they are tough against whatever it is they are against at the moment.

I actually read a lot of it and he actually says parents need to take a lot more resposibility. He only wants it to be kept out of reach of children, he doesn't want it banned from adults too. But I think the way he's going about it isn't the smartest way.
