GTA IV sex video gives Thompson, other critics fresh ammo

Grand Theft Auto IV is one day away from release, and already Jack Thompson has begun to step up his war on the title. The embattled Florida attorney has written a letter to the US Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, R. Alexander Acosta, demanding that legal action be taken against Take Two and retailers for selling the game. This time, Thompson appears to have an unlikely ally thanks to video gaming news site IGN.

in all fairness, the video WAS a bit over the top lol. They pretty much showed the dirtiest sexual things possible and threw in a little violence for added flavor. It's too bad that this video will be the only thing a lot of people see about GTA IV and they'll base their opinion of the game on it. American society lives on information "bites". It's like we're too stupid and/or lazy to analyze something in its entirety for ourselves. No, we depend on the talking heads at CNN, Fox News, talk radio, etc., to tell us what to think. Hour-long video games, speeches, sermons, and movies are reduced to 30 second clips to promote a certain agenda. Things like that should insult our intelligence, but instead we eat it up..Intelligence really is going the way of the dodo :/

I don't get these ignorant people who have been brainwashed by society to think sexuality is worse than depicting murder and violence. Get over it, I hope sexuality in adult games continues, because it's a part of real life, and I think it would be unfortunate if games were to be completely censored when it came to sex. If you're ok with seeing someone get their head blown off bet have a problem with seeing a tame fully clothed sex scene, then gta isn't the game for you, and you are a very confused person.

Even if sex is supposed to be done in a bedroom between a husband and wite, murder isnt supposed to be done at all. Don't give us that BS tplarkin. Watching Porn from a young age does not equal homicidal maniac. I know this for a fact. How old are you and why do you think it is so bad to watch porn? Porn makes up for almost half of the movie market. I don't see half the world in chaos though. I see the ones without it in chaos in some spots though.

There are two branches for Mature games for those that don't know. There is the more teen mature game and then there is the Adult mature game. Since there is no place in any store for AO games at the moment. It will continue to be this way. This content is nothing like what I expected. I was expecting more explicit stuff, but this is same old same old with new graphics and few curse words and one or two new animations with strip clubs. I agree that this shouldn't be sold to 10 year old kids right off the shelves, but that is likely already happening. There is no law to stop things like this, but its up to the vendors to control things like this. Its just like comparing a R rated movie to a NC-17 or Not Rated version of it with R rated movies matching Teen Mature area of games and NC-17/Not Rated films in the Mature Adult. The ratings for the films are the same as the ratings for the games. Just like NC-17 movies and stuff like that where under 17 kids aren't supposed to be let in unless they have parent or guardians with them. Some places are very strict and others are not. There never will be anything stopping this type of thing because if it is there would have to be an attack on the movie industry as well not just video games and that is just to big to attack. Its the same as your kid buying a R or NC-17/NR movie with nude scenes and sex in it and them buying a MA rated game with this content in the game. The games are still cutout really with sexual content. I don't see any nudity in these clips for GTA IV and stuff just normal nudity. So get over it and start talking to your kids about what is on the game.

if you go by all the 10 out of 10 reviews this may be the last game you ever need to buy So I say ban the game, right after 5 million people buy it this week :)

Now a little more seriously, I agree with you completely PeeBo. There really was no reason to put that video together. I personally love the fact that Rockstar gives you the choice to moral or immoral. Last I checked no one had to go to prostitutes or ever kill one innocent person to make it through most of the GTA games. But I agree completely with Thompson, Children shouldn't play it, but it isn't up to the Government to stop them. It is the M rating on the game that should stop their parents from buying it for them.

edit: It is articles like these that make me happy, just when the community of N4G couldn't be more divided, Good ol' Jack comes along and brings most of us back together in order to have a good laugh at his expense

I was reading on Yahoo today an article about the impending contovsery over the new GTA. The article talked about how it is bound to happen and that children and family groups are going to flip. It talked about the belief of these people that the game will lead to mass corruption of the youth and turn them into killers. But then it pointed out the best argument against these idiots ever! In the past ten years while video games have skyrocketed in popularity the crime rates for children committing violent crimes has only gone down drastically nation wide. People should just use this argument to shut these people up.
