Reuters: Sony off to races with "Gran Turismo" - GT Series as MySpace for Gearheads

Sony's PlayStation 3 is off to the races with a teaser installment of its iconic "Gran Turismo" franchise, starting this year's high-octane video game lineup with a wave of the checkered flag.

"Gran Turismo 5 Prologue", which rumbled onto store shelves last week, gives PS3 owners a taste of what is in store when the full version of the highly anticipated driving simulator comes out in 2009.

When it comes to racing games, Microsoft's rival Xbox 360 system has left the PS3 in the dust with exclusive titles such as "Project Gotham Racing 4" and the "Gran Turismo"-inspired "Forza Motorsport 2".

"There are very, very few brands -- a handful or so -- that are directly responsible for moving hardware in volume over a 12-month period, and 'Gran Turismo' has without doubt been that kind of title for PlayStation," Scott Steinberg, vice president of marketing for Sony Computer Entertainment America, said in an interview.

When the author stated "leaving it in the dust" I think he was referring to the fact that they've been released for some time already.
PGR3 was a release title for the 360 and its sequel PGR4 was released last year as was Forza 2.
With Prologue just being released and the full game not to be released until next year at best estimate, the Xbox 360 has had 3+ exclusive racing titles out for owners of that console to play for some time now.
Other than Motorstorm, the PS3 has had a bit of a drought which may explain why so many people were willing to purchase Prologue.

GT5P is an enhanched demo and been out a week... and i have more time in that then forza 2 or pgr4...ms lost its touch with 360s racers... they had a shot on the xbox with forza 1, pgr2, rallisport 2, and mm3...now their just slacking.
