How bad is playing the Wii online?

But wow. Online play. That's not working too well, is it? Last night, I finally decided to give online a spin. I gave up after trying to join several games and waiting 5 to 10 minutes a pop for other players that never showed. Later, attacking with more resolve, I finally I got into one match-felt like a lottery winner-only to find that lag makes the hyperactive game completely unplayable. So I just wanted to run a quick poll to catch reader impressions of Wii's online services and see if I'm the only one having issues:

The Wii online is mostly bullcrap at best. Friend codes, no voice or text even. PATHETIC.

What did that Nintendo guy say? 'Our gamers don't want to play online' or something like that?

3 - Of course, the Wii isn't a console just a toy for 5-10 years old kids..
that's why nintendo doesn't care about online.

4 - i think nintendo should call uf EA and see what they are doing, lol
Ever tried MOH heroes 2 online? i have no problems playing it and guess what? MORE people are playing that at one time, up to 32 people! with NO lag, come on Nintendo, if EA can make their servers work with your system, you SHOULD be able to do the same... 0_o

p.. you can even add people to your friends on MOH, WITHOUT friend codes :)

p.s.s. seriously Nintendo needs to fix the crap servers for SSBB

I join a laggy game every once in a while but online seems to be pretty smooth for the most part (Brawl and Mario Strikers), and I'm using wireless.

I wonder how many ppl who commented on this story have actually played the Wii online...

6 - Overall has been pretty good
Have played on-line since Pokemon and with several other games on-line and have had very few negative exeriences. Not to be a fanboy, but the percentage of bad connections I have had are still significantly less then the failure rate for the XBOX360. I would take having an operating system with on-line issues over a system that fails.

okay.. brawl connects P2P so there is no SERERS really.. they just find games and connect consoles.. i mean i play a LOT of online on my WII and yes sometime sit lags bad but usually its pretty good..

sometimes i know my connection is crap so i play offline.. it happens even to me.. (and i know its me)

i mean sometimes i will be playing with 2 other players and between matches a 4th join and thats when the lag starts.. and i know that the new guy is the lagger.. he leaves and it continues fine.. i just hate when they don't leave..

Strikers plays awsome and its great to see the STAR ratings.. MOH:H2 plays awsome online cause everyone's connection is not affected by laggers.. they are just easy targets..

and I played a lot of GH3 online cause it has all the songs open.. i usually host.. its the quickest way to get into a game.. and i play CO-OP with my cousin all the time.. no lag.. unless 1 of us is having internet problems..

so BRAWL is taking a lot of flame for crappy internet connections and clogging internet pipelines..

did you know that anyone in Toronto connecting to almost anywhere in the states have to jump through a NY server or a CHICAGO server.. these get really congested.. especially on WEEKENDS and when everyone finishes work..

in command line editor do a TRACERT

START -> RUN -> type CMD -> hit ENTER

Type -> tracert www.google.ca -> Press enter

you can enter any address and any IP and it should trace the jumps.. usually the first 4 or 5 are under your ISPs control and the rest are managed by other bigger companies.. so when you sign onto N4G you go on other networks.. and the lower the numbers the better..
