Ninja Theory considers CGI movie alongside new multiformat title
38
UK developer Ninja Theory has told GamesIndustry.biz that its next title is original intellectual property for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, with the project already signed to a publishing partner.
Despite rumours, the studio is not working on a sequel to Heavenly Sword – a PlayStation 3 exclusive and IP which Sony owns, not the developer.

the be three in the series. I'm sure it will get worked on but, like you, I want this sooner then later. I'm curious to see what this new IP is though.

Maybe Sony decided to give the project to another studio. I want Heavenly Sword 2 though. The first one was probly the closest a developer has come to a real film like experience. In my humble opinion anyway.

Heavenly Sword was a great game just short. Nice to see they are not developing exclusive for Sony and they can show the 360 some love now.
Insomniac how about you??

unlikely
Sony would probably guard Insomniac with their lives- they are soooo valuable to them
plus to make a multi-plat title for the 360 they would have to start a new IP- instead of making a new Resistance or Ratchet game (proven franchises with lots of popularity) because those are owned by Sony
revenue wise- it's better for Insomniac to make exclusives for PS3, unless a new IP could wow consumers and sell millions

6.2 - HS was a great game
but, as you say, it was too short. It's good to see some love for the 360 as well. I'm really curious about the new IP.
LOL @ all your disagrees for wanting some Insomniac love on the 360. Everyone disagreeing with you needs to realize that your comment is actually a rather nice compliment to Insomniac. I doubt it would ever happen but, people shouldn't get all bent over a compliment.

definitely meant to be a compliment. I agree that Sony probably take real good care of Insomniac being the developer powerhouse they are and so valuable to the Sony stable of games.

It's that futuristic/steampunk game their site alludes to. Whatever it is I wanna see it because the art direction from those teaser images is fantabulous.

Heavenly Sword 2 is been done by Ready at Dawn Studios- the studio that did Chains of Olympus. Well we can assume this especially that they have proven their worth to Sony as a rising talent amongst their first party developers.
Who better to give HS2 > Sony Santa Monica.......No they dealing with GOW3......

Heavenly Sword was good cuz' Sony paid a lot $ for voice actors and other production stuff Ninja Theory is an o.k developer but without big $ I don't see how can they make a hit, well let's hope they will but I doubt it, as for HS2 Sony will do it someday I'm sure of it.

I would rather have a Heavenly Sword CG movie along with Heavenly Sword 2 then what ever their new game will be because there is no guarantee that the new IP will be good and plenty of people already love the characters and story from Heavenly Sword. That being said I am interested to see what the new IP is.

16.1 - Whether it's good or not
I can't imagine it's worth the risk given that it would be an unproven IP for a CGI movie.

i guess this is what happens when sales dont meet expectations, due to HS being a PS3 exclusive. They smartened up when they saw a game like Devil May Cry selling great on both 360 and ps3.
expect other dev, pub and games like MGS4 to go the same route if it doen't sell to expectations..
muah hahahha!!!!

17.1 - Considering
HS2 is still going to be PS3 exclusive and that this is just a new IP, how the hell do you get off bringing MGS4 into this? Are you waiting for MGS5 or a different IP from Kojima? Take your fanboy crap outta here.
BTW ... I was under the impression that HS wasn't stellar but wasn't poor either. And you'll never get MGS4. ;P

18 - Well considering
that they release a xbox title before and they are not a 1st party dev for Sony. I see no reason why NT shouldn't dev something for the x360. HS is their only PS game anyways. Good for them. People must understand that these devs need to feed their families as well.

20 - the smart thing
is that Sony actually *OWNS their IPs.
from what i've seen, MS is content to just *LET Epic, 2K, and Bioware keep the Gears of War, Bioshock, and Mass Effect IPs, respectively, and settle for a release on the console, not exclusivity (there's always a chance that later games in the series can go multi-platform). if Microsoft *OWNED the IPs of Gears, Bioshock, and Mass Effect, that would be three rather fine feathers in their cap. sure, for now, the sequels are exclusive, but they could go multi-plat at any moment.
Sony on the other hand, will build up a good IP (ie, Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, and Uncharted), and even if they didn't own, or work with the studios that made that series, they *OWN the IP.
they understand that, for the average consumer/gamer, they know *NOTHING about the studio that made it, but only the IP.
i guarantee that a Halo 4 made by Treyarch would sell just as much as a Halo 4 made by Bungie. why? because the name *HALO is more known and reknowned than Bungie.
Heavenly Sword was a moderate success on the PS3 (despite stupidly bias and one-sided reviews: *GREAT GAME, but it was too short = 7/10 wtf??), and fans of the series will buy the sequel, even if Ninja Theory isn't the studio making it. remember, Sony has 21 other first party studios that are more than capable of producing an excellent Heavenly Sword sequel. not to mention that a bunch of the Ninja Theory guys moved on to Sony Cambridge, so some of the original team wouldn't be far off.
in either case, i'm looking forward to Ninja Theory's new IP, and i'm curious to see what their CG movie would be. i always felt that, for video games, a CG adaptation was a better way to translate the series to the big screen than live action. live action *ALWAYS looks silly (and this is coming from the guy who enjoyed the first Mortal Kombat movie, and even the Resident Evil flicks are a guilty pleasure), so CG (think Incredibles, not Spirit's Within, although i liked Spirits also) seems like a better way to go.
i'll keep my eyes open.
this E3 is shaping up to be one of the most revelatory in a long time.

Well I'm sure they probably will be back to do a sequel to heavenly sword. Like how Eat, Sleep, Play an independent developer will be making the new twisted metal games. The thing what I'm happy about though is that the new Ip will be on ps3 as well and we want have to worry about crappy ports or such since I'm pretty sure the ps3 will be the system they are working from since they have a grasp of the hardware lol
I know there new game will be good though since they are doing questionnaires and are getting consumer feed back on what they need to improve.
