Violent Video Games Can Increase Aggression

Playing violent video games like Doom, Wolfenstein 3D or Mortal Kombat can increase a person's aggressive thoughts, feelings and behavior both in laboratory settings and in actual life, according to two studies appearing in the April issue of the American Psychological Association's (APA) Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Furthermore, violent video games may be more harmful than violent television and movies because they are interactive, very engrossing and require the player to identify with the aggressor, say the researchers.

I was actually a very violent person before I start playing games. After I started playing game, I haven't got into a fight, or got into any problem with anyone for over 12 years now.

14 - Wolfenstein 3D?
Perhaps they should spend a little more money and buy some new games for their research.

I have seen a lot of people punch arcade machines because they lose. That seems like aggression to me.

Hmm. Or could it be perhaps that parents don't teach their kids that games are just that, games. A game should not case aggregation if the person playing it understand the basic of controlled behavior...

On a side note, back in my high school days I noticed most of the "bullies" where the football players. Which was kind of sad since in my 4 years at that school they only won 2 games, but I digress. And I'm assume it's pretty much the same at every school, so does that mean that football causes aggregation? If so, I demand football be banned...for the sake of the children...

Or get parents to do their jobs, you know, which ever.

If you know how to properly recognize games as SEPARATE from reality, then you'll never have a problem.

It's those who let them become reality that get the dirt shoveled on us and our videogames.

This is why I don't ever put much stock into "studies" for this reason. All they do is push someones political/personal agenda that's it. Look at any study and you'll see it.

As for this one. Hmmm Sounds like a bunch of crap. I choose to play violent video games, yet when I get off I don't beat my wife or act aggressive in any way. If anything I'm relaxed and happy. I play games because they get rid of the real life stresses for me.

And what I want to know is if video games are the target for this, then why not include films as well........on that's right I remember now. It's because the people who conducted this studie like to watch films.......should've known.

Then it sounds like she's done her job successfully... why would you beat her after that? ^_^
