Crytek proves you can get Crysis running on high settings for $900 US

The folks at Crytek set themselves a challenge to create a PC within a budget of $900 USD that would be able to play Crysis on the highest settings. And according to them, they managed to succeed. Their system consisted of a Core2Duo, 8800GT 512MB, NVIDIA nForce 650i Socket 775 MB, 2GB ram 240 pin DDR 2 800 and other necessary components such as a 250GB 7200 RPM. They conclude that their experiment shows Crysis provides unparalleled performance on high settings on an easily affordable machine.

Still not worth it. There's going to be another game that comes out that will force to upgrade soon after this anyway. And Crysis will get ported to the consoles. And after 2007 and 2008 we're going to be full of FPSs that we don't care if the graphics are like 2x times better on PC. I mean Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 I would choose these games over Crysis.

Yes I would rather play cyrsis than KZ2 or RFOM2 as both those games have yet to arrive and I dont buy into the hype around them..When they come out and I can see them in action for myself.Then i will decide...

I am still planning on building my own PC around $2000 after all said and done.Still nice to know that it is possible...

first off ps3 fanboys can argue that bluray is an added bonus on ps3 and hence makes it a good deal/value for money even if u r just buying the console to play games, however to these fanboys feel it's a waste of money to get a $900 computer that can play the best looking game on the market decently and do a million other things? get my drift, pcs don't just play games and watch movies, they do a trillion other things consoles can't do, as a matter of fact, over the yrs game consoles have been trying to be more than just gaming boxes, they are trying harder and harder to be like pcs bcos they have seen the advantage pcs have with multitasking, some of these innovations are impressive but a price is paid, just to look at patches, framerate issues these days,

Consoles are awesome deals for ppl just looking solely to get games and they have awesome exclusives but most of these are also coming for pc, the gap is gradually narrowing on exclusives for consoles, as i am writing this, i have dmc4 and assassin's pre-ordered for pc, waiting to pick up in 2 weeks and i'm going to be enjoying it at full detail in true pixel by pixel 1080p on my 52" Bravia with liquid smooth framerates, oh and i forgot, both games were $10 cheaper than their console counterparts

Are they running it on high or very high? I can only manage 720p at very high and my pc is no slouch. x6800 at 3.5ghz, 2gigs 1066 dominator, wd raptor, 680i, x-fi, 640 meg 8800gts overclocked.

I can get ~35-45 fps in 1280x1024 on very high (in XP, with little tweak to enable "very high" in XP). My specs: Core 2 Quad @ 3Ghz, 8800GTS SLI, 3GB RAM.

i ran the game (with an e6600, 8800 gtx OC, 2gb ram) at 1680*1050 getting about 35fps....I had everything at high, except for 2 settings. They were something like shadows and post processing I think.

But in all seriousness, I would rather turn the settings down than go to a lower resolution, as I tried the game at 1280*1024 and it didnt look right at all considering I had just played the game at my other res....

moneywise it would make sense to port it over..even if they have to modify the engine quite a lot, I think it would be worthwhile for them...

even just reducing the textures a bit, and reducing the draw distance...plus some other changes to make it ok with console specs and I think they would have a winner

And altho I love playin it on PC, I would like them to do console as well, for the reason they will make more money, and stay in business!

Not only that, even with a cheap $900 dollar computer, it can do a trillion things more then a console can which is why it costs "SLIGHTLY" more then a console. jeez guys, almost everyone own a computer. And their point is if you are upgrading your computer, not for gaming, which might cost 400-500$, you might as well add a few bucks and be able to crysis on high.

BTW you can get crysis on high even cheaper... get a E4400 OC to 3.2ghz, 500W supply would do and the dvd rom/hd u can get for bargain bin prices... 750 would be enough

Moreover you DON'T need to play crysis on high... a 600$ pc wil buy u medium quality which still looks great... saying u absolutely need a high end pc to play this is like saying u absolutely need a big HDTV and surround sound to game on a console, therefore the cost of entry is 2 grands...

True, but I have been recently looking into getting my PC update so I can play Crysis and a good monitor and card will run you close to the price of a decent HD-TV. I was looking at screens at least 24 inches that supported the higher resolutions and a Graphics card is all I need. Im gonna get a 8800 GT 512 card next month but hold off on another LCD. I have a 23 inch but it only supports up to 1280 × 768 and I wanna play at 1920x1200.

This monitor looks like a good choice but im not sure. What do you guys think?

Dear console only gamers

Some people have powerful computers for things other than gaming. I am one of those people. I use my pc for writing, mixing, engineering and mastering music so it has to be as fast as possible. My monitor needs to be large and as high res as possible so i bought a 28" 1920x1200 monitor for audio not gaming. To me my pc is the hub of my studio and was purchased for that reason, gaming is just an added benefit that i rarley indulge in. So in theory i only spent 400 bucks (gfx card) on pc gaming since gaming is not it's primary function and just an after thought. If you only play games on your pc that is one think but most people dont. Try running cubase 4, 32 instances of the waves ssl channel strip, an L3, a few L2s, tons of IDR reverbs on full spec and 10 or 12 virtual synths on a 900 dollar pc all while streaming 32 channels of audio of of your HD. A "crysis" machine has so many more uses than just crysis is my point. Few pc owners spent 3k on crysis.

I mean all the greatest PC hits of 2007 was on the 360 and some on the ps3 and that thing about a pc can do a trillion things more is just BS, the ps3 can use Linux so just about any other feature the PC has the ps3 has also. My advise is don't waste any money trying to upgrade your PC(something u will b upgrading every 6 months or a year) because you can buy both a ps3 and 360 for less than the price for a PC.

Read a book, read some articles, heck, read anything and get more informed so u don't have to make uninformed statements like that ever again. I'll sitting back with my ultimate media center, workstation, hd tivo recording, gaming rig, wordprocessing, IM, high definition video/audio editing, Maya 3d rendering, media streaming server multibooting vista, xp and osx leopard on my 100% fully moddable quad core 8800 machine hooked up to my awesome 52" 1080p Bravia with a wireless keyboard and mouse, sixaxis pad with custom drivers, logitech driving wheel, 360 pad and a wiimote with glove pie all hooked up, which I wasted a lot of money on, $1500 to be precise, I feel so miserable now, maybe i should have just gotten a ps3, 360, wii, imac for leopard, seperate powerful machine for vista/xp with an expensive 24" lcd monitor for the video editing work I do instead, that would saved me a whole lot more, especially paying $10 extra for multiplatform games!!

...but at anywhere from 3-8x the cost of either consoles, is it really worth it? I don't think so. Put that kinda money in my hands, I'd get 3 ps3's and 3 x360s and load up on controllers and games for them and have some hardcore gaming parties rather than build a huge, menacing insane gaming machine only I can enjoy!!

why buy several consoles in the first place? how many tvs do u have? don't even get me started on hdtv prices, or let me guess that doesn't count because ur parents bought it for u or u received it as a gift,
ur argument is implying that the $900 gaming pc can only do one thing, play crysis and other pc games, sure u can throw ur gaming parties, but at what expense? buying more tvs/getting extra equipment to match the number the number of consoles available, buying cross cables and switches to network the consoles, $60 per game versus $20-$50 on pc, $50 per controller, cooler for the 360, paying $$ for online on each xbox, now who's the one wasting? all that extra money gone to waste, what would u do after u've thrown all those hardcore parties, u r left broke with a just a bunch of gaming boxes that can do nothing but game or watch movies, sorry but I would rather have all that money wasted on an extra gaming pc that does a trillion other things way better than the older pc I had, like coming on this site and typing comments, and whether u like or not, u do use a computer almost everyday and it is always good to have a good spec machine to avoid stresses/headaches of freezes/hangups due to processor clogging or old hardware, taking forever to startup, making horrifying noises and terrible mouse lag when there is too much activity, u know what i'm talking about,

Slow down there, pal, games 20-50$ on pc? Yeah, maybe if theyre 1-2yrs or older, but the same price comes to console games after 1-2 yrs anyway. $50 per controller? Ever heard of buying stuff online for significantly less? Thats what I did when I loaded up on controllers for my 360-4 wireless for 35$ each at the time, can probly find just as good a deal with ps3 controllers. Cooler for the 360? Screw that, mines been fine without one, gullible imbecile fanboys just want you to think otherwise. 50$ online for each 360? Dude, have you ever heard of LAN party? You dont need live to do system link.

because i can guarantee you that unless u're still using mom's dusty old pentium 2 dell or don't have a laptop, the laptop/pc desktop you're typing this is either not too far from $900 in cost or is even probably more expensive than $900, whether u like it or not, $900 is very cheap/best bargain for a high end computer, considering a $900 dell doesn't even have a video card most times, computers cost more because they do more, people even buy $900 pcs, that don't game at all or do any professional work on it, yet it is still worth their while and money because it serves several useful purposes and a good machine comes in handy and is very reliable for use, just ask ur parents how much they spent on their computers/laptops or even the ones they bought for u,
look at hps, dells and imac desktops in that $900 price range, they suck balls for gaming and are considered average computers, now if u want an average good performing dual core vista home machine, u would be spending the same or even way more, console ppl, get over it already, u don't upgrade just because of one thing and even if u do, u get loads of other bonuses with the package

Actually, believe it or not, you can get an hp quad-core desktop for 800$ (maybe less now) and say...an nVidia 8600GT (ya, I know it's not the best, but it does provide superior graphics to ps3 and 360) for 150$, that's just under 1000$, not too bad.
