360 USA: 276,700

I agree with the numbers you have, and it shows the current strength of the X360. However, a few things need to be taken into consideration. How long can the US support the X360 numbers? In Japan and the rest of the world, Sony is still selling the PS2, which is still selling about 200K units a month. If you factor this in, then the numbers skew towards Sony. The difference between the X360 and PS3 is that the X360 is selling huge in the US but not elsewhere. The PS3 is selling relatively the same in the US, Europe and Japan. Once Sony pulls the plug on the PS2, which will lead to a significant price drop for the PS3, then the PS3 will sell like crazy in all three markets. I like the X360, but MS really has no real loyalties outside the US. Sony has a lot of brand loyalty outside the US, but the price is too high. Lowering the price is looking easier than trying to introduce a new brand into a culture that has been living on the Playstation. Also, as I've posted before, if japanese gamers want a hardcore system, they buy a PS3. If they want a recreational console, they buy the Wii. Where is the room for the X360 in Japan? This is the question MS will look to answer during the life of the X360. But for now, the X360's US loyolty is carrying the sales.

Please read my post above. If you want to compare other factors, add the PS2 to your counts and that's when Sony actually looks better. The problem, as I've stated above is that the U.S. is carrying the X360 heavily right now. MS can hope this will last, but it will be really hard to sell at the same rate for years to come. The PS3 doesn't sell too well right now becuase the PS2 is still out and is dirt cheap. Once the PS2 is dropped, which will lead to dramatically lower prices for the PS3, it will be like the PS3 just got released all over again and will sell a lot of consoles in the US, Europe and Japan. The PS3's problem is the price (across the board). X360's problem is to introduce a console in Japan which competes directly with the Playstation brand, the brand that is somewhat religious there. IT's intersting from a business standpoint to see what will unfold with the PS2 is out of the mix. Remember, the PS2 didn't sell very well for a long time while the PSOne was still out. Then it took off. Just a thought.

But what people fail to realize is that even thought the PS3 kills 360 in Japan. The 360 makes up for it by marginally outselling in in places like Europe and Australia, and regulary beating it in US sales by a significant margin.

So I am sure certain people ahem *cough* *cough* PS3 loyalists will jump for joy when they see the PS3 is outselling the 360 in Japan without properly adding up the total Worldwide sales each month. This would explain why the PS3 hasnt and wont anytime soon close the sales gap between them and the 360.

regional sale is important in a sense that local publisher will want to publish game that will sell in their region. That's the case with PS3 vs 360 right now. So at least for now we know that japanese publisher will certainly support PS3 as well as 360.

But show me where the PS3 is beating the 360 outside of Japan. People discredit vgchartz all the time, but the the sales difference between the 360 and the PS3 in the UK alone is almost enough to bridge whatever percieved sales gap might be happening in countries like Spain or Germany, etc... The UK is by far the largest market in Europe for videogames. Go over there click on other and look at each consoles sales. Otherwise come with a better source before you spread your FUD. BTW 360 outsells PS3 in Australia. Deal with it. Price is a factor!!!

I can't wait to see journalists pick this up. PS3 outsells 360 in Japan 10-1 blah blah. They did it between the wii and the ps3 in Japan and they did it in US too. So the fact that msoft is not a japanese company is irrelevant. If i don't see articles soon am going to take it as my confirmation that most of the media is biased against ps3.

North America is the world's largest market for video games. Japan is not nearly as big of a factor as it was when 90% of all games came out of Japan. That simply isn't the case anymore with all of the newer powerhouse European and North American studios.

little pimp daddy or whatever i dont know where the heck you're getting your figures from but that i recall there was a post that showed sales worldwide and 360 is not outselling PS3 in UK or anywhere else..only outselling it here in the US..It's a reason why the US is so far behind japan in technology cause we always want the "right now" instead of looking ahead reason being why the PS3 is so far more advance than the 360 and they've compared the specs on both ps3 and 360 nothing similar besides being a gaming console. They did mention how the 360 specs are very identical to the original xbox. because kotaku clearly prints the sales charts from many places in europe and the 360 and ps3 are neck in neck, plus VGcharts shows that the 360 beats the ps3 in the UK and Australia. And NDP charts show the ps3 losses to the 360 in my home country of Canada.

I think by June of 08 the PS3 will have about the same install base (if not a bit larger) and if they come out with that 40GB 400$ PS3 i can see sales jumping a good chunk.

Sony is Japan and MS is American. With the worlds view of america at this time in history i do think Sony will win the worldwide market b4 much longer and should take over america in about one more year.

If Sony had no class you would see them flaunt there fail rate and at the same time point out others short comings. They wont do that thou because they have class. I dont know about you but i think if the tables where turned and MS had 3% (like they said they did) and Sony had a 33% fail rate you would see em point it out during NFL Sundays.

When you see high-def TV's at the shows they do what do you see? You see em all using blueray to show off the goods and not HD-DVD.

Would someone please explain to me why japan is so important. Only 130 million people living in that country. But the US and Europe combined is about 900 million people. Seems to me that most of the japanese developers cater to the japanese only. But most of the market is outside of japan. I mean, most of my favorite games and some of the best selling games aren't even developed in japan.
