Man kills 6-year-old gamer with meat cleaver

In Newbury Park, California, authorities have arrested a man for killing a 6-year-old boy with a meat cleaver. Calvin Sharp, 38, was reportedly arguing with Sandra Ruiz, 33, in an apartment complex Sunday night. When Ruiz's 6-year-old son ran outside, Sharp chased him down in the courtyard and began striking the boy in the head multiple times with a meat cleaver. Neighbor David Crawford said that Sharp shouted "die, die" during the attack. "He said he was tired of him playing video games all the time. He said his ex-wife had cheated on him and was sleeping with all his friends," Crawford said.

Some people say public execution and death penalty in general would be the solution for these kind of horrible crimes, but that's just not true. When people kill, they're either A) nuts and don't realise what they're doing or B) they realise what they're doing but don't think they're going to get caught. That's why death penalty is not a deterrent. There's actually a lot less criminality in Europe, although we don't use death penalty or any other type of primitive punsihment. We send the killers to jail and let them think what they have done for the rest oh their lives.

There have been cases where the death penalty has been cancelled because the convicted is found to be innocent when the evidence is examined closer. I understand the motives of those who oppose the death penalty –in a time I can’t remember, I used to be one of them. Regarding the article, I can’t really comment on how necessary the death penalty is in this case; because I am unaware of the crime situation in the US.
