Xbox Users Petition over Vesperia Beta: "It Isn't Fair!"

Xbox 360 users, stung by being the paying beta testers for Tales of Vesperia, a game touted as an Xbox exclusive and the sole reason many own their consoles, are launching a petition for redress from Bandai-Namco Games, who they accuse of "underhanded" and "unfair" tactics for daring to release the game on the PS3 in massively upgraded form.

Whilke I agree that had a western release been planned we would possibly have heard by now and those assuming a full US/EU release may be upset afterv waiting what could be twice for it I think the chances of them missing out on other parts of the Asian market are slim . Those regions often have an english sub or, as it exists largely already, possibly voice track so all is not lost for PS3 only fans of the series.

As an owner of both I'm just waiting to see if the more complete PS3 game becomes available in a form I can play-if not I'll settle, I guess, for second best-without whining.

Why are these people complaining with any more right than those who bought their PS3s on the strength of SE saying FF13 would be exclusive and have now still to play one game from the company they kept afloat during the PS2 generation? Companies do sh1tty things and as we gamers are so disunited we allow them to get away with them time and again. They only want our cash-when will we ever learn? Why would Namco-Bandai be any different?

Personally I kind of feel that companies should keep their word over things like this, things which could lead to you actually saving up and buying a games console you would not otherwise have done. Yes, money might be king here but is it unreasonable to think that if a dev/pub says something is totally exclusive(which assumes a deal has been done over the cash from sales being potentially halved)that it stays that way? Of course not and whichever side of whichever console divide you may be on you shouldn't deny the right of people who feel hoodwinked to complain about it.

Exclusive demos, DLC, timed exclusivity all fall into this bracket but the worst is the supposed proper exclusive which they, after any decent length of time from announcing said exclusivity, decide to do a "U" turn over. I've not got riled myself ever but find it totally understandable why folk do-and I ATRONGLY suspect that it's because of this kind of reaction that SE didn't have the guts to make FF13 a multi plat in their back yard-LOADS of their countrymen bought the PS3 solely for FF games and this would totally obscure this little storm had it been allowed to happen.

Makes Vs less likely to go multi plat, I suppose, if my feeling is correct-but we'll see about that AND then KH3-which I suspect will have something "exclusive" to one console or the other when it's finally announced-it seems rare that we ever get the same version to play once these politics begin. Because, this wasn't announced in advance of the game. GTA IV episodes and the time exclusive maps for MW2 are all announced in advance!

Remember when MS advertised Ninja Gaiden 2 as exclusive, only to have Tecmo backstab them by releasing a reworked version on PS3? This is no different and at a minimum all gamers should be allowed to enjoy the content.

I was not the least upset about the additional character PS3 got for Batman:AA or the C&C Red Alert 3 treatment, because both was announced in advance so I could make an informed choice.

If it was announced in advance, there was a choice. If it is announced after the fact, then the company tricked you! Even worse, is when it is clear that some of the game content was left out not additional just additional stuff to entice new buyers.

If you are a TRUE gamer you should be upset at this albeit, I'm admittedly a hypocrite and will buy NG Sigma 2 CE none the less!!!

In the end Ninja Gaiden 2 fans overall lost. Why? Because on the 360 you got blood and direction of one director, but on the PS3 you lose blood and things are changed (not necessarily bad). In the end I think fans of the series like me is loosing and no one is a winner, but Tecmo squeezing money out of us.

if you only own a 360 and wanted all of this extra content. However, the game has been out for a looooooooong time now, and its only fair for PS3 owners to get something after the long wait. I've already been playing the game on 360, but if the extra content is great enough, then I'll surely buy it again for my PS3.

I understand your point of games announcing that certain versions would get extras befoere they released so people would know before buying BUT in all those games they had multi-platform day and date releases. Things like this are just incentive to buy a game that has been out for a long time already. If M$ pays for timed exclusivity then there is a time limit before the possibility of another version can even be announced, let alone have it mentioned that the version releasing on another system a year later would have more content.

That was not true at all people thought it was the same as Nintendos deal with Tales of Symphonia not coming to the PS2 in the US and Europe. Don't forget ToV didn't get released in Europe 10 months later.

They should instead petition Microsoft to have a bigger disc storage capacity and HDDs for all their consoles. 250 GB, a reviewer can not live off of 250 GB for their Xbox 360 and don't get me started with DVDs for a median. It is OK for Wii since they can only do 480P anyway.

This is all the content that couldn't fit on a DVD so they are complaining to the wrong person since all 5 episodes and the original Fallout 3 can fit on the same BD.

Sony require extra content for a late release on their console. So this was required from the devs, and the Xbox 360 only owners got the game early, so they should be content. The game is obviously going to PS3 because it didn't get enough sales on 360, which is the case for most JRPGs.

If you really care THAT much about the extra content, then buy a PS3 and get the game on that system as well.

I can understand them not being able to release the information due to NDA. However, in Ninja Gaiden 2's case it was not as you put it:

Ninja Gaiden 2 was and in legal terms (not yet contested in a legal court) is exclusive. Tecmo backstabbed MS, by adding enough content to call it a different game when we know very well that it has additional content with some tweaks. In no way can that be considered a different game! So yes, in that sense it is not exclusive and you can blame Tecmo. Yes, I don't blame Sony, because Sony like MS will want as many games as possible on their platform.

However, I don't care that it is exclusive or not. I just think that Tecmo dropped the ball on the people that bought and supported NG2 especially when it was touted by Tecmo as an exclusive. Let the 360 people that supported the game get the same content as a DLC.

So problem here to re-iterate is, Tecmo publicly touted this as a 360 exclusive only to find out it is lie. If Tecmo like Capcom would just say right now we are focusing on the 360 version. No other version is in the making. Done!

Either way, I'm happy another NG2 is coming. I can't get enough of that game!!!

As a gamer I'm getting upset by any game company not being up front with me about their games exclusivity plans. Like someone earlier tonight told me the Xbox 360 MW2 map packs will be free on Xbox Live, but PS3 owners will have to pay. If that were the case then what is the point of even putting it on PS3 Infinity Ward?

As I said above I also think the western release would have been announced if it were coming BUT with an almost complete voiceover job in English from the 360 game I would think that a wider Asian(a la DS)release with an English option in one or two*(HK or China?)being a cert to judge the potential for western sales as well.

I also think they're a bit silly not to do a western version with little needed to finish the US/UK versions and PS3 games being region free. All they'd need is a patch(which, I guess, they could charge for)with the voices/suns on and job done-cheap localisation and on PS3 I strongly believe there's a bit of a larger jrpg market starved of games so it could do better than the 360 version has-f'rinatance I've held off on getting the 360 version in the hope a version I can play(either French, Spanish, English or, with difficulty, Russian)ever emeges on PS3 with all the extras. Namco-Bandai's handling of the PS3 version of Tales of Vesperia looks no different to that of Eternal Sonata. Game releases globally for XBOX 360, NamBan says there is no planned version for PS3. PS3 version for Japan with extra content is announced, no plans for other territories and then the game releases only to be announced in NA and PAL regions. It's very likely ToV will release in the other regions, just as ES did and I do not see why they would go through all the work to make an enhanced port for just the region where the PS3 has its smallest install base.

Hear, hear Uni. I'm always saying similar about the silly fractured nature of gaming's community. Yes, I prefer my PS3 for a couple of reasons but it doesn't stop me liking my other latforms and sympathising WHOEVER is getting the sh1tty end of the stick.

IMO, we suffer more than the normal consumer because of our over loyal natures-it allows companies to take the mickey AND have gamers do their spin for them!

I really wish my fellow UK gamers would give Activision a vloody nose over the MW2 hike so the US and Co don't get the same raise next time out. It would show what we could get done but , sadly, it's a forlorn hope and the fractures in our midst ensure it remains that way.

So why do people complain over old milk when they got it fresh before everyone else? The only difference here is the PS3 users will get chocolate milk that's been sitting around for a long time.

As an example:

The 360 and PC versions of oblivion still have extra content that can only be purchased on PC or 360. Even though the PS3 got oblivion as a second launch we still can't get all the DLC.

On another good side note. Oblivion did include the extra nights of the nine DLC for the PS3 version included at launch.

Microshaft paid for timed exclusivity. It's their fault they didn't get the best product. Just like Microshaft rushed the 360 to market in fear of the PS3, it's the same case here. The product that is given more development time will be better, especially when the 360 is used to beta test the much superior PS3 version.

Petitions of this kind make no sense regardless of which console people support. Last generation saw exclusive games coming to specific platforms but more and more publishers have been going multiplatform. Take Grand Theft Auto 4 for example. The game was released on both Xbox 360 and Ps3. However Microsoft had Rockstar develop exclusive content for the game in the form of episodes which added another perspective to the GTA experience (new story and characters while playing in the same world)

Batman Arkham Asylum received exclusive content for the Ps3 version while maps for Modern Warfare 2 will be released for the Xbox 360 first.

I say all this to say exclusive games are last gen and in this generation the battle will be waged over exclusive content in games. This is just something we as gamers have to accept because it is not going to get any better.

If you want a more "complete experience" that a game on the "other" console offers it makes more sense to buy another console ( if you can afford it) rather than starting petitions.

I disagree. Say I'm a fan of GTA. I can only get one system. I really like MGS and GTA. I get a PS3 because GTA is a multiplatform franchise and MGS is PS3 exclusive. Why should I be punished, as a fan of GTA, for not buying the other system? They are basically telling me that I'm not good enough, and I won't be allowed this extra content. That seems kind of silly to me. And it works the other way as well, with things like NGS2.

This is a petition to ban or stop people from buying products because they want products.

In most cases that's true. I've found that most of the time the price dips down but once a JRPGs go's out of production it skyrockets.

I've been looking for new copies of PS2 JRPG that are new factory sealed or in pristine condition. These games are usually double the original price new.

A lot of people wait a few months for the prices of games to go down. In most cases games prices go down for people who wait. Sadly, with JRPGs sometimes waiting isn't the best choice. As a fan of these games sometimes by waiting you risk the chance of experiencing a game completely.

I'm sure a lot of 360 ToV owners didn't expect the PS3 launch and at the time happily parted with the money to purchase this game when it was exclusive. Now that it's jumping ship as an updated version a few of them probably think they should have waited. I don't think they realize how lucky they where to have an opportunity to get it first.

The gamers who waited did so at a higher risk. No one really knew it was a timed exclusive or that the PS3 version would get more content. I'm just happy that I may get a chance to experience it on the PS3.

It seems to me that MS rely too much on timed exclusive deals and it's really hurting their install base. I don't understand why they just take it up the ass. People laugh at PS3 losing exclusives but the 360 has been losing tonnes. More than PS3. If anyone's to blame here it's MS, not Namco Bandai. This game has been Multiplat from the start and I guarantee MS rushed them to bring it to Xbox 360 just in an attempt (and a failed one) to get one over the PS3 in Japan. It's quite sad really. Rpg sales are not strong on the Xbox going back to the first one its been marketed as a shooter console. Playstation has always been know for the rpgs, and the sales are better. So now companies have to recoup their earnings. I don't blame Namco for doing this they took Microsofts money with a price and that was the sale earnings of the game. they have tons of money but not enough to wipe out sony, its brand and its fan base of the face of the earth. So because their only previous highmarks (win & office) were done by the use of antitrust tactics, they thought they could approach gaming market the same way.
Timed exclusives are the biggest lie ever:
1-give money to developers so they dont publish on the other system
2-the contract states that silence must be kept on possible future appearance on the other system
3-sell the thing as exclusive, lying to costumers

Actually ninja gaiden , bisoshock , tales of , eternal sonata ..cases ..well sony doesn't allow lates ports WITHOUT a great amount of changes made into the game .

The result is this ..game get upgraded because there was more dev time and more space in the blu ray disc.

This even allow ( eternal sorata case ) some dev to make good endings when they didn't have time to make them correctly ...

As a PS3 user, I wouldn't call myself a "paid Beta tester" if a new version of MGS4 was released on 360 way after the release of the previous game. They're just assuming that a few of us lucky people have both consoles, and fans of the game will want to snatch up both. It happens often!

If you agree with the article's assumption, do you also think that Gamecube RE4 players were paid beta testers when they got that groundbreaking game before PS2? The PS2 version had extra content, and the Wii version had more. If you've got a neuron inside of your skull, your answer should be "No. I'd rather play the game when it's ready for release than just fart around waiting for extra content."
