Top 10 "Oh S**t" Moments in Gaming

Koku Gamer writes: "Your up playing games at four am. The lights are off, and you feel exhausted. You have little to no health, the last time you saved was seven cups of coffee ago, and your not sure whether or not you can feel your legs. Your hands are clammy, and the analog stick keeps sliding from your thumb. It's all a bit too tense for your liking. Suddenly, something shoots from the wall, hurtling toward you. Your character stands still in the face of certain death. The game over screen rears its ugly head, and you find yourself looking for that controller you just launched 20 feet across the room, accompanied by the most feminine sound a man has ever made. You just experienced an 'Oh S**t' moment. Welcome to the world of gaming."

I LOVE IT !! A great top 10 article, good list too. Disagree with Sonic though, I don't really care much for Sonic unfortunately. Well to each his own

FreeMonk5409d ago

list, but I agree that the Sonic one sucked.

I would of easily replaced the Sonic selection with the classic game 'Eternal Darkness' on the GameCube.

That game had soooo many 'Oh Sh!t' moments, to the head all of a sudden falling off, to the sound turning itself down, making you to turn it back up and then scaring you half to death with a huge scream, and the 'Blue Screen of Death' saying that it's deleting your Memory Card. Truely 'Oh Sh!t' moments

The damn zombie things in Drake's Fortune. I don't think anyone saw that coming. Was a really awesome twist though, and the whole Nazi base on the island was an even more awesome twist.

Some serious nostalgia. I miss late 90's and early 2000's gaming.

Metal Gear Solid 2

Fission Mailed.

That's not even counting the fact that the sequel to one of the greatest games on PSX tricked all of us into thinking we were going to play Snake, then dropped Raiden on us.

TheAntiFanboy5408d ago

The microwave scene wasn't really an "oh sh*t" moment, because it wasn't sudden or anything. Everyone knew it was coming. Besides, it's not meant to be sudden. It's meant to be slow and excruciating, not an "oh sh*t" moment.

^^ True, but I tapped that freakin button like my life depended on it. Every time Snake stumbled I tapped it faster. Before I got to the end, I swear I was standing up and my hand was exhausted. I think that counts as an Oh S*** moment. Same as the torture scene from the first one.

***MGS2 SPOILERS (kind of)****

The one I thought of was from MGS2 when Vamp takes a bullet to the skull and gets back up. I thought I was done with that freak.

Agreed on #1, was really unexpected

When that thing popped out of the ground I didn't know what the hell to do.

Tbh the boss in sotc which made the biggest impression was the very first one. After managing to climb the cliff, you hear this earth shuddering rumbling, and the trees are shaking. And then this HUGE colossus walks by. I was just left feeling like....damn. And it walks away from you and you know you have to take this thing down. And cos its the first one you're like, wha...wh...ho..how??! The first thing i tried was firing an arrow at him, and then he roars and turns around and starts going after you. Seriously, for me that was more worthy of the number 1 spot then colossus 13 but i can understand why 13 was chosen

Team Ico FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TapiocaMilkTea5408d ago

Never played Shadow of the Colossus, but it looks very realistic, truly amazing game.

i agree with your top... love the videos with each entry

KingKionic 5409d ago

Number five was very unexpected.

Ziriux5409d ago

Yea, about half the list is unexpected there. Although a good one for the most part I think. For me Shadow of Colossus was oh sh$#$ moment the whole time. Probably one game that I had a good emotional reaction to. Of course MGS4 is right after SoC when it comes to epicness and the story.

EKWB reportedly plagued with financial disarray many gaming pc's left without parts

EK Cooling allegedly has slipped itself into a hot soup of seemingly endless financial woes, where it has not paid its staff, suppliers, and contractors for many months as the company is facing liquidity problems and a surplus of inventory left unsold, stuck in the warehouse for a more extended period. Gamers Nexus investigated these claims made by former and current personnel, where he found trails of unpaid bills lasting as long as three to four months and unpaid raises that accumulated for almost a year.

EK Water Blocks has two entities—a Slovenian-based headquarters and a US-based subsidiary, EK Cooling Solutions. Steve narrated the series of events in detail, stating that the company was reportedly irresponsible and negligent regarding payment. Consequently, partners and employees are forced to share the burden of alleged mismanagement. It all begins with its extensive range of products, leading to a surplus of goods. EK has over 230 water blocks, 40 liquid cooling kits, 85 reservoirs, 40 pumps, 73 radiators, and 212 miscellaneous accessories.

Yes this is not about video games directly but indirectly this will impact the pc gaming/workstation space hard.

This company is massive one of two in the water cool space so if it goes poof then thousands out there have no spare parts or half built computers.

SO yeah i know not about a video game but think of it as amd leaving the pc space but this is ekwb that could be leaving water cooling in the pc space

Jayz2cents a supporter of there products also has issues

As someone that has built a watercooling rig. EK is big, but there's so many numerous watercooling part companies out there. EK's stuff isn't exactly amazing quality for the price compared to others either, it's just ok. Much like Corsair. The impact would be negligible long term. For perspective the majority of my parts are XSPC, at most I use EK for my gpu waterblocks and fittings. Both easily replaceable.
